TRAVIS BROWNE (17-3) HEAVYWEIGHT
ON REPRESENTING POLYNESIAN CULTURE:
Having a Polynesian background: from birth something we’re born with is heart. My Mom and all my Aunties and all them would say that I’m hard-headed and stubborn, almost. That’s what we do – we fight to the end. We’re going to leave it all in the cage. Junior (Seau)’s thing was, “Leave it all on the field.” Whatever we decide to do, we’re going to do it one hundred percent.
Representing the Hawaiian people and the Polynesian people, you have a lot of support. And you don’t ever want to let anybody down. There’s nothing wrong with coming up on the wrong side of a fight or something like that – as long as you went in there and gave it your all. And that’s something that people recognize – no matter what, at the end of the day I’m going to come out there and give it my best. So my opponent better understand that.
I could be almost out on my feet, but I’m going to keep swinging. I’m going to try to win that fight. I think people appreciate that.
ON REWARDS OF MMA vs. OTHER SPORTS:
This sport really gives you a sense of accountability. At the end of the day – when the cameras are going and the lights are on – it’s only you in there. You don’t have anybody else to point the fingers at – saying they did this or they did that. It’s all about you. And you’re held accountable.
And that’s what MMA has done for me: help keep me accountable and make sure that I get my own self done.
