ON REPRESENTING PHILADELPHIA FIGHTING HISTORY:
They set the standard high, put it that way. Guys like Joe Frazier, you know… The fighters that come out of Philadelphia – right now, we’ve got Danny Garcia, who’s doing well. But it’s such a long history of awesome – not only fighters – but characters; people. Awesome people.
They set the standard high; set the bar high for all the young up-and-coming fighters now. So it’s up to me to take that torch and run with it. Not only strive to make my name in Philadelphia but also be a good human being. Fly that flag and have a good character.
ON HEART:
Fighting in general is the ability to endure. To endure. It’s not an athletic event. This is called ‘fighting’ but amongst us here (in this room), there’s a lot of athletes – not a ton of fighters.
And the UFC has that: a lot of athletes, not a ton of fighters. And you’ll see the fighters when we get into the third and fourth and fifth round – they come out. The athletes go away.
It’s a special thing – it’s a rare thing. And when you find it, you always want to watch that guy fight. You want to watch them endure and see how they deal with some adversity.
