Micki Nielsen (20-0, 14 KOs) has taken inspiration from Sylvester Stallone’s iconic boxing movie ‘Rocky’ ahead of his WBC International title defence against Mirko Larghetti (24-1, 16 KOs) on Saturday night at the Albertslund Musikteatret in Copenhagen.

Nielsen faces his toughest career test to date against the former World title challenger Larghetti, who is ranked number-three in the World by the WBA.

To ensure he is ready for the challenge, the 23 year-old southpaw has visited his local slaughterhouse accompanied by coach Joey Gamache to complete some ‘Rocky’ style training, turning the cold meat carcasses into makeshift punching bags.

‘’Every kid dreams of being like Rocky Balboa, so it was a lot of fun to come to the slaughterhouse and recreate this scene,’’ said Nielsen.

‘’The Rocky films have always been a big inspiration for me. Rocky was the underdog fighter that made it to the top. I think most boxers can relate to that.’’

Nielsen will now be hoping to emulate Rocky’s success in the ring as he prepares for the first defence of his WBC International Cruiserweight title.

‘’This is my toughest fight, but I believe I’m ready,’’ he said. ‘’If this training helped Rocky against Apollo Creed, I’m sure it can help me beat Larghetti!’’
