Medina Upsets Love Via KO in 3 From Palms Casino In Las Vegas

boxing_resultsThe “Desert Showdown” event went according to plan with all of the Mayweather Promotions fighters on the card taking home victories following their bouts inside the Pearl at Palms casino. All of them except for one, and that was the main event of the night headlined by previously undefeated Las Vegas-based fighter J’leon Love taking on Mexico’s, Rogelio “Porky” Medina.

The bout started quickly and kept a rapid pace as the two 168-pound stars met in the middle of the ring and traded punches. Medina’s shots seemed to land more flush and accurate temporarily, putting Love on the defensive for the latter half of the 1st round as well as all of the 2nd round. Going into the 3rd round the Mexican slugger trapped Love near his own corner as his coach yelled out instructions to move but it was too late, Medina landed a short but very powerful shot on the inside that sent J’Leon Love crashing to the canvas. He did his best to get up and beat the count but he was on very unsteady legs and wasn’t able to do so.

An exhilarated Medina jumped into the arms of his trainers having just captured the biggest win of his career. The official time of the KO came at 39 seconds of the 3rd round moving Rogelio Medina to (33-6). The loss is the first in the professional career of young J’leon Love who came in as a 25-1 betting favorite and leaves with a record of (18-1).

JACK EASILY DECISIONS ESCALERA OVER 10 ROUNDS

In the co-main event of the “Desert Showdown” card Sweden’s Badou Jack (16-1-1) took on talented New Jersey fighter, Jason Escalera (15-2-1), in another 168 lbs bout this time scheduled for 10 rounds. Both men started off somewhat tentatively for the first few rounds of the fight either patiently working their jabs or trying to find their range. From rounds 4 and up, Badou Jack stepped on the gas and began snapping his jab by double and triple the amount as well as putting together his combinations.

Jack peppered his foe with crisp left hooks that did damage as well as a stiff jab that shut down any offense that Escalera could muster. The Sweden native’s defense was also on point tonight as he rolled with punches and slipped any trouble coming his way for the bulk of the 10 rounds as he cruised to the clear points verdict.

The official scores for “The Ripper” Badou Jack’s unanimous decision win over Jason Escalera were (100-90) twice and (99-91). The win moves the Stockholm representative to a record of (17-1-1) while Escalera drops to (15-3-1)

GAVRIL CONTINUES VICTORIOUS KO STREAK WITH STOPPAGE OF FALOWO

As the opening bout for the Shobox telecast from the Pearl inside the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Ronald “The Thrill” Gavril (9-0) took on Thomas “The Souljah” Falowo (12-2) in a 8-round super middleweight bout. For the first few rounds Falowo worked his 1-2 combinations as he came forward while it seemed that his opponent was strictly looking to counter. He did. The shot came in the 3rd round as Gavril waited for Falowo to unload a 2-punch combination and countered over the top with a right hand that sent him to the canvas at about the halfway point of the round. Falowo beat the count but fought visibly conscious of the power in his foe’s hands for the remainder of the match.

Gavril moved his target downward and started attacking his man’s body all throughout the 4th and 5th rounds making his man’s guard lower just enough. It paid dividends a few rounds later as Gavril landed upstairs again and visibly stunned Falowo who got on his bike and covered up. The unbeaten Romanian smelled blood pursuing the finish as he pinned his defenseless man along the ropes in a stoppage that resembled the end of the Oscar De La Hoya vs. Fernando Vargas fight. Referee Robert Byrd stepped in waiving off the action to prevent any further damage to the Rhode Island representative.

Ronald Gavril remains unbeaten defeating Thomas Falowo via TKO with the official time of (2:14) in the 7th round. The win improves Gavril to (10-0) with 8 KOs as Falowo drops to (12-3).
