John Vera: Fans can expect a great performance from me Saturday

In the co-featured attraction, super middleweight John “The Phenom” Vera (12-0, 8 KOs), of Fort Worth, Texas, puts his unbeaten record and NABA-USA title belt on the line against Joey “Boxer” Ruelas (10-1-1, 4 KOs) of Phoenix Arizona. The fight should be a good one as both fighters will be stepping into the ring with similar records and experience as professionals. Before his fight, Vera spoke to BoxeoMundial about his coming bout with Ruelas, fighting at the D, and his start in boxing.

On facing Joey Ruelas…
“I don’t know much about him, I’m usually like that though. I figure out my opponents in the ring. I have a way of adjusting, so I’ll see what he brings to the ring.”

On fighting at the D in Las Vegas…
“I’m happy to go out to Vegas, broaden my fan base and hopefully make a whole bunch of new fans there.”

On his boxing skills inside the ring…
“My strongest point is how smart I am in the ring. I have a great ring IQ. That would be my first weapon. I have  good timing, good speed, I like to punch, I can do different things. I’m not one dimensional, I’m not your typical boxer. I can move or I can trade.”

On his start in boxing…
“I started boxing when I was about 11. It was just me and some friends, we kind of just stumbled upon it because there was an old school trainer around our neighborhood. We had nothing better to do, so we figured we’ll just try it out. There was probably like 10-12 of us that tried it out, and out of all of us, I was the one that stuck with it.”

On why the fans should tune in…
“Come out, it’s going to be a great show. It’s a beautiful arena, outdoors like the old times. They can expect from me a great performance. A lot of skill and intelligence. I hope to show them something that they don’t see all the time in the boxing ring.”
