TOTOWA, NJ – Main Events officially announced they have signed a promotional contract with undefeated Texas heavyweight David “Nino” Rodriguez, 36-0, 34 KOs. The hard-hitting Mexican-American is riding a nine-bout knockout streak, and after an almost two-year layoff from the sport, and is eager to get back into the mix.

Rodriguez began his pro career in 1998 with 18 straight KOs. Of those, 17 knockouts came in round one. In his entire career, only two men have managed to make it to the final bell against Rodriguez, and just one other foe escaped round three. Rodriguez has destroyed everyone else within the first three rounds. When “Nino” fights, there are fireworks. In all, Rodriguez has a 94% KO percentage.

This promising heavyweight’s career – and life – almost came to an end on December 30, 2011 when he was knifed outside of a restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona. The brutal attack required 369 stitches to mend and left a large scar on the side of his face, from ear to chin. His return to the ring was sidelined again after suffering a knee injury requiring surgery while preparing for a fight in the summer of 2012. Now, healed mentally and physically, Rodriguez is ready to take on all comers.

David Rodriguez said, “Through God I was given a second chance at life, and through Main Events I was given a second chance at a career. I’m deeply humbled and grateful for the opportunity. I finally feel like I’m in good hands and the sky is the limit. Thank you to my advisor Luis Decubas Jr, my manager Rick Pineda  and the rest of my team, Rafael Garcia, Bob Santos, Rodney Crisler.” He added “Thank you Main Events for believing in me. It’s time to bring excitement back to the heavyweight division.”

The El Paso native has collected five regional titles in his career, including the WBC FECOMBOX and NABA heavyweight belts. Now with those accomplishments under his belt and his undefeated record intact, the six-foot, four-inch Rodriguez is ready to make his move up the heavyweight ladder.

“David has made it clear that his intention is to step up in 2014 and take on everyone at the top of the heavyweight division,” said promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events. “David has the personality, the looks and the punch to be a big star. It will be Main Events’ job to give him the opportunities necessary for him to reach his goal of becoming the heavyweight champion of the world.”

Rodriguez’ advisor is Luis Decubas Jr and he managed by Rick Pineda. He is hoping to make his return to the ring as a Main Events fighter before the end of the year.
