ORANGE, Calif. (May 8, 2014) – Thompson Boxing Promotions celebrates its 14th Year Anniversary with “New Blood,” a championship triple-header featuring rising lightweight star Jose Roman (16-1-1, 12 KOs) of Garden Grove, Calif. and the hard-hitting Luis Solis (12-2-4, 10 KOs) of Mexico in a battle for the vacant WBC CABOFE Lightweight Championship in the 10-round main event, Friday, May 16, from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif.
The co-feature pits all-action super bantamweight Juan Reyes (10-1-2, 1 KO) of Riverside against top prospect Isaac Zarate (7-1) of Los Angeles in an 8-round fight. The winner of Reyes vs. Zarate takes home the vacant WBC CABOFE Super Bantamweight Championship.
The third championship bout of the night showcases IBFA World Light Flyweight Champion Sindy Amador (11-1, 1 KO) of Riverside defending her hardware against the tough and undefeatedMaria Suarez (8-0-1) of Santa Maria, Calif. The world championship fight is scheduled for ten, 2-minute rounds.

“We could not think of a better way to commemorate our fourteenth year anniversary than by promoting a championship triple-header,” said Ken Thompson, president and founder of Thompson Boxing Promotions. “Our matchmaker and general manager, Alex Camponovo, has done a masterful job through the years of matching exciting and competitive fights, and this one is no different.
“In the main event, we have top flight prospect Jose Roman, who we think is going to challenge for a world title very soon, Reyes-Zarate is going to be an absolute barn burner, and Sindy Amador, a world champion, is going to be tested against the undefeated Maria Suarez.”
AMADOR VS. SUAREZ
The Amador-Suarez fight promises to be an entertaining, back-and-forth affair. Amador and Suarez share a common opponent in Jolene Blackshear, the former WIBA Light Flyweight World Champion.
Blackshear captured the title against Amador via an 8-round split decision in July, a fight that Thompson Boxing promoted at the Doubletree Ontario. Later, in December, Suarez won a 6-round unanimous decision (59-55, 60-54 twice) against the former title-holder. After the Blackshear fight, Suarez remains undefeated and is gunning for Amador’s title.
“Amador won’t be holding that belt for much longer,” Suarez said. “She had a hard time with Blackshear, while I made it look easy. I’m confident that the belt is coming home with me.”
Amador, however, is the more seasoned boxer, having fought in eight and ten round fights before. In fact, Amador captured her world title in a 10-round unanimous decision win over Amaris Quintana in October.
“There’s a huge difference between fighting ten rounds and fighting six,” Amador said. “Suarez will have to adjust quickly if she wants to remain competitive. I’ve done it before so I know exactly how to train and prepare. I’ll be ready to defend my title.”
ROMAN VS. SOLIS
Roman-Solis is perhaps the most intriguing of the three championship fights. Roman, an Orange County native and former CSU Fullerton student, is poised for a breakout year. Having
dispatched Lauro Alcantar by first round KO in April, Roman appears ready to face top quality prospects. The first test is the hard-hitting Solis from Marida, Mex. Roman will have added motivation as he is fighting for his first title of any kind.
“Solis is another roadblock, another obstacle I need to get through in order to accomplish my goals,” said Roman, who is trained by the well-respected Joel Diaz. “I need to take care of business in order to continue moving forward. Beating Solis and winning this title is all that I’m thinking about.”
REYES VS. ZARATE
The co-feature will provide plenty of fireworks since both Reyes and Zarate prefer to fight in the middle of the ring with limited breaks in action. Reyes, who has developed a reputation as a high volume puncher, will look to overwhelm Zarate from the opening bell.
“Zarate is going to have his hands full,” said Reyes, who is promoted by Thompson Boxing Promotions. “He probably tried to simulate my punch output in his sparring sessions, but that’s a poor substitute. I’m going to make it real difficult for him.”
Rounding out the card is undefeated junior lightweight Mario Amador (5-0, 3 KOs) of Texas. An opponent for Amador will be announced at a later date (4-rounds).
Colombian lightweight Cesar Villarraga (2-0, 1 KO) looks to remain unbeaten against an opponent to be named later (4-rounds).
Northern California bragging rights are on the line when undefeated heavyweights LaRon Mitchell (3-0, 3 KOs) of San Francisco and Derrick Williams (0-2) of Stockton square off in a 4-round fight.
