WHO IS MICKY ROMAN ???
Mexican fighter Luis Miguel “Micky” Román, has always dreamed of being the first world champion in the history of his hometown Ciudad Juárez Chihuahua, which borders with “El Paso” Texas. And now after 17 years of professional career, Roman will be closer than ever to this, when he steps into the ring at Indio California’s Fantasy Springs Casino, to face former Japanese world champion Takashi Miura on Saturday, January 28 , for the WBC super-featherweight (INTERIM) world title.
Román, who is represented exclusively by “Promociones del Pueblo”, has long waited for the world title fight opportunity, which has not come for one reason or another.
The World Boxing Council WBC, the most important body of boxing worldwide, has ranked him as the number 2 of the world, and named official challenger of the current champion, since long time ago. But boxing is a business and the TV wondered: “WHO IS MICKY ROMAN ??, WE DO NOT KNOW HIM”, WITH WHOM HAS HE FIGHTED ??, and as no one answered, HBO (the television) decided that the current super-featherweight champion will face another challenger, but giving “Micky” the opportunity to fight in the same card for the interim world title, against former Japanese champion Takashi Miura.
Roman Portillo in an exclusive interview for “Promociones del Pueblo” stated: “Well, as I have said, I was thrown to the most difficult (Miura) instead of the champion, but I am preparing myself as never because if God allows me to win, I want the champion Francisco ‘El Bandido’ Vargas for dessert”.
He also revealed that this, and all the fights he has won since 2005, are dedicated to his late brother, Agustin Roman.
“It was in 2005, a bullet, a gang fight, they were fighting and they went to my house and told me, your brother was shot, and soon I got in the car to take him to the hospital, I thought everything would be fine, but it was not like that, he died in my arms when we were on the road, he was my only brother and since then, I promised that someday I would become world champion, in honor of him”, he declared, recalling sadly those events.
“Micky” is currently 31 years old, he has not lost since he faced mexican Dante “Crazy” Jardon on October 13, 2012 at the “Palacio de los Deportes” in Mexico City, since then, he has won 18 fights, 15 of them by knockout and has enough elements to beat any super-feather today. It is worth mentioning that Román was the one who retired former famous mexican world champion Daniel Ponce de León.
Micky just needs the US boxing fans, see him boxing and that will happen next January 28.
“I have a date with history, I can not fail, I want to be the first world champion in Ciudad Juárez, I will not have Christmas parties because I want to give everything for my family,” he concluded.
