Valley Fight Night delivers action

Last Friday night The Sportsman lounge in Studio City, California played host to the latest installment of Valley Fight Night. The event promoted by Lights Out Promotions in association with Bash Entertainment delivered another fun night of fights for the fans in attendance.

One of the most exciting fights of the night was a featherweights Dima Gerasimov who took on Max Cenieceros. The fight went the distance but the display of toughness from both fighters left the crowd cheering throughout the fight.

Both exchanged kicks as Gerasimov used plenty of roundhouse and switch kicks while Cenieceros attacked his opponent’s lead leg. Constantly chopping away at the leg till the final bell.

Gerasimov was able to get takedowns but keeping Cenieceros there proved to be difficult as he found ways to keep the fight standing.

The end result saw Cenieceros earn a unanimous decision but both men earned each others respect and the crowds approval as they cheered till the end.

Marcos Bonilla was able to get back on track as he defeated Adel Al Tamimi by TKO in the second round. The win get Bonilla back in the winner’s bracket after suffering a defeat in his Bellator debut. Now back to training at Systems Training Center, the featherweight hopes to make a run to redeem himself.

Middleweight Matthew Spencer overcame some rough moments to defeat Jonothan Ferrell by first round armbar. The submission came after Ferrell looked to have hurt Spencer with a series of elbows to the head as he tried to go for a takedown. Unable to finish Spencer, Ferrell soon found himself in a scramble and was defending an armbar that he couldn’t escape.

Lightweight Daniel Clark impressed with a first round submission by rear-naked-choke over Marlon Magee. The Muay Thai expert used his striking to soften his opponent before displaying his jiu-jitsu pedigree and finishing the fight.

The co-main event was an action packed bantamweight battle between local favorite Alfred Khashakyan and Anthony Paredes. The back and forth action saw Paredes have success with his takedowns and striking but Paredes wouldn’t be denied.

At times the fight looked to be heading to a decision but after a series of vicious exchanges between the two fighters, Khashakyan found an opening and finally was able to put away his opponent at 3:23 of the third round.

The main event of the night almost didn’t happen after a series of fights in the crowd took the attention of the event. Soon after order was restored and the threat of the main event not happening motivated those fans to stay seated.

Welterweight Thor Skancke scored a TKO in the first round over the always tough Jason Cordero. A takedown seemed to favor Cordero but Skancke was able to establish control and deliver some ground and pound till the referee had seen enough and stopped the fight.

Well aware that he had defeated his former training partner and what had occurred in the crowd, Skancke took the microphone and had some words for the fans.

“Please no fighting. If you come to see me, respect me. The guy I’m fighting is part of my crew. That guy right there is bad and is a black belt in jiu-jitsu. I trained hard for him so give him respect,” said Skancke.
