Sin City Showdown Undercard : Results Recap
Sanjarbek Rakhmanov (9-0-1) vs. John Delperdang (10-4)
(Welterweight Bout – 8 Rounds)
Rakhmanov and ‘Bang’ Delperbang met in one of our two 147-pound matches of the night. Rakhmanov got off to a great start as he swept the first 4 rounds of the match easily thanks to his relentless attack to his man’s body. He jabbed his way into his opponent’s chest then finished downstairs with some wicked left hooks and thunderous rights that echoed throughout the arena. Delperdang gladly backed up along the ropes and covered up in hopes of his foe possibly punching himself out but, the undefeated Las Vegan’s great conditioning would not allow it. Round after round after round, Rakhmanov unloaded combination after combination to the head and finished to the body. Delperdang finally let his hands go in Rounds 3 and 4 as he circled out and had his foe’s back along the wall temporarily; ripping to the body with some looping lefts and double right hooks. However, Rakhmanov simply nodded his head in disapproval as he comfortably blocked most of the shots.
Heading into Round 5, ‘Bang’ Delperdang had his best moments as he slipped some shots from his man and let his hands go a little bit more. Normally being on the wrong end of a Rakhmanov combination he managed to back him up and unload a few combos of his own. But, at closer glance you could see the unbeaten Vegas representative smiling and winking at his foe after blocking the hooks to the body. Almost encouraging ‘Bang’ Delperdang to match his body work blow for blow. Nonetheless, Rakhmanov was not deterred by his man’s offense and came back strong after giving away the last 30 seconds of Round 5 to rest. In Round 6, Rakhmanov used more angles and backed up a bit, taunting his man before ripping away with two crisp left hooks to the body and raking him with solid jabs. He also rolled with the shots and showed off his defense behind great head movement and upper body movement. In the final 2 rounds Rakhmanov stepped on the gas and marched forward at his man with combinations to the body. He switched stances along the way before flicking a jab or two or three then throwing a stiff straight followed by a right hook while Delperdang did his best to let his hands go as the match came to a close.
RESULTS: Sanjarbek Rakhmanov remains undefeated defeating John Delperdang via unanimous decision with scores of 80-72 on all three score cards.
Rolando Romero (3-0) vs. Johnny Estrada (0-3)
(Lightweight Bout – 4 Rounds)
As seen in his previous two bouts, his sparring sessions or many a training video, ‘Rolly’ Romero sprinted towards the action coming right at his opponent for the second match of the evening as he collided with New Mexico’s Estrada. Ironically, Estrada had accidentally walked out during the introduction of the first match of the night so he too was in a hurry to get the party started. Now that the Las Cruces native got into the ring, he stood toe to toe with Romero who launched nothing but power shots at his opponent from the opening bell. Maybe a stiff jab got in there as well but, Romero ripped away with hard crosses, mean lefts and solid right hooks – all power. This put Estrada on the defensive very early and the New Mexican was backing up allot more than he probably anticipated. Romero walked him down minute after minute sticking him with hooks over and over and unloaded a combination in the final 10 seconds of Round 1 that landed clean sending his man to the canvas. Estrada beat the count but was on very unsteady legs and referee Vic Drakulich kept a close eye on him from then on.
Going into Round 2 Romero did not let off the gas whatsoever. He marched forward unloading power punch after power punch and focusing on his hooks. He was so in tune with admiring his work that Estrada landed one or two counters flush on his face and it seemed like he barely even noticed. Romero made him pay however, as he worked some combinations to the head and body then landed a vicious left hook to the body that sent Estrada to the canvas. The New Mexico warrior ate the shot and immediately took a knee in the corner of the ring. The exact same corner where he was knocked down at the end of Round 1. He beat the count just as he did in the first stanza and marched on but, Romero was all over him. The undefeated Las Vegas native walked him down and doubled up on the left hook this time landing it perfectly dropping Estrada like a sack of potatoes in the very same corner where he had previously gone down twice. This time he did not get up as the devastating shot left him on his back grimicing in pain as referee Vic Drakulich stepped in as soon as he hit the mat to call a stop to the bout.
RESULTS: Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero remains unbeaten stopping Johnny Estrada via TKO at (2:02) of Round 2 via body shot.
Andres Cortes (6-0) vs. Thomas Herrera (9-18-1)
(Lightweight Bout – 4 Rounds)
The opening match of the evening featured ‘Savage’ Cortes and Herrera kicking things off from the Sam’s Town Live arena inside the Sam’s Town casino in Las Vegas for the Mayweather Promotions fight card.
There was absolutely no ‘feeling out’ process as both men met in the center of the ring and banged it out to the crowd’s delight. Herrera ate allot of clean shots but rarely pulled away from still marching forward in order to land that home run overhand right. This was his go-to punch from the begining of the match to the final round. On the other hand, Cortes’ right hand was deadly accurate as he lead or countered with it. What didn’t help matters was that Herrera was very flat-footed and dipped his head forward way too much; something the Cortes corner should have capitalized on and asked their man to launch more uppercuts. Nevertheless, Cortes showcased a nice assortment of combinations, jabs and punch placement. He knew what to throw and when; if fighting his man at close range he worked the body and slipped in an uppercut or a hook and if he had Herrera at his distance he stuck to his jab and followed up with and overhand shot that landed as he commanded the action for the first 9 minutes of the bout.
Going into Round 4, Herrera was noticeably slower. He still flung that overhand right during exchanges or he lead with it but it was losing pop and his blows where more arm punches than anything. His stance was off due to fatigue and he found himself tripping over his own feet or losing his balance ending up at times with his back towards his opponent. Cortes landed some clean shots along the ropes spinning his man around who lobbed one final straight before getting countered flush from Cortes. The clean and hard punch was enough for referee Russell Mora to call a halt to the battle and prevent any more punishment from happening to a very game Herrera.
RESULTS: Andres ‘Savage’ Cortes remains unbeaten stopping Thomas Herrera via TKO at (2:05) of Round 4.
