Promoter Nisse Sauerland believes Erik Skoglund (22-0, 11 KOs) is set for stardom as the undefeated Swede prepares for a historic homecoming on September 19 at the Rosvalla Stora Ishallen at the Nyköpings Arenor in Nyköping, Sweden.

Skoglund will become the first male boxer to contest a major title on Swedish soil since 1968 when he defends his IBF Intercontinental belt against Oleskandr Cherviak (15-4-1, 5 KOs), and with the backing of his home fans, Sauerland expects the 24 year-old to impress as he continues his climb to the top of the light heavyweight division.

‘’I’ve had the pleasure of working with Erik for the past five years,’’ said Sauerland. ‘’In that time he’s developed from a talented young amateur to a bona fide world title contender. The end goal has always been for Erik to return home and fight in Sweden and we’re delighted his chance has finally come.

‘’With the backing of his home fans, I have no doubt that Erik can follow in the footsteps of Swedish greats like Ingemar Johansson and become the country’s next big super star. He has all the talent in the world and for a fighter like him the sky really is the limit.

‘’He’s hard working, clean living and extremely dedicated – all the makings of a future world champion. Now, I believe he’s ready to fulfill his potential. Erik is already on the cusp of a world title fight and a victory on September 19 will move him even closer to realising his ultimate ambition.

‘’Cherviak is a tough opponent and will be coming to win, but this is Erik’s time to shine. This is his chance to show everybody what he can do and prove once and for all that he is ready to face the very best in the division.’’
