Rigondeaux Disappointing in Complete Destruction of Agbeko

rigondeaux vs agbeko pelea-chris farina-top rankGuillermo Rigondeaux pitched a perfect shutout against former IBF Bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko with all scores being 120-108.  And while Rigondeaux can’t be faulted for easily dismantling one of the top bantamweights, it was one of the worst fights ever witnessed.  The entire press row at ringside was dying for the fight to simply be over.

All cannot be blamed on Rigondeaux either as Joseph Agbeko refused to engage, box or even throw punches.  Agbeko landed an average of 4 punches per round.  This is a terrible performance for a former champion and one who was at one time a TV friendly fighter.  Agbeko fought with no sense of urgency or any sense of actually caring winning a round, let alone the fight.  Agbeko came to collect a check while trying not to get knocked out. Obviously Rigondeaux is tough to figure out, but that doesn’t mean one should pack it in and not even try.  Agbeko is just as much at fault for the action less bout as is the masterful Rigondeaux.

Guillermo Rigondeaux improves to 13-0 with 8 knockouts and retains the WBA, WBO and Ring Bantamweight titles.  Agbeko drops to 28-4 with 22 knockouts.  While Rigondeaux is a boring fighter to watch, HBO might be forced to show his fights simply because he is one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world, currently my number 3 behind Mayweather and Ward.
