Houston, TX – At the post fight conference Oscar De La Hoya took to the podium to address the media regarding the performance of his super star fighter Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez fresh off his spectacular KO performance over James Kirkland. Oscar opened up to the media to relay what he felt is the passing of the torch and the closing of one era and welcoming a new era of fighters. “I believe we witnessed the future of boxing, last weekend we witnessed the past (Mayweather defeating Pacquiao) and this weekend we witnessed the future”

Alvarez had just defeated the hard hitting Kirkland in the third round of an all out war. “I believe we witnessed Hagler/Hearns all over again, it was action packed, it was dramatic” stated De La Hoya.

The drama De La Hoya was referencing was after the first knock down in the first round Kirkland seemed to find his way so to speak and landed some really big shots of his own. While Canelo started very strong, it seemed he was slowing down jus slightly and may have been buzzed momentarily by a couple of the shots Kirkland was throwing. “Not only did Canelo display ability to adapt but he also displayed his heart, he was a relentless fighter just like Kirkland. I believe Kirkland had Canelo a bit tired and a bit shaken up”
