The MaxiNutrition Knockout: MEET THE BOXER – DANNY MCINTOSH
LONDON – Hennessy Sports are proud to introduce Danny McIntosh to the MaxiNutrition Knockout, which will be shown live on Channel 5.
Fighting in the second set of MaxiNutrition Knockout quarter finals on March 22 at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, Danny takes on Travis Dickinson with the English light heavyweight title on the line.
Hometown: Norwich
Professional record: 14 wins (7 knockouts), 5 defeats and 0 draws
Nickname: The Big Mac/The Mac Man. It’s just something that came from the top of my head with my last name and I just stuck with it.
Titles: English and European light heavyweight champion, British and Commonwealth light heavyweight title challenger.
Career highlight: Winning the European title. I only had four weeks notice, three weeks training. I was ill and I couldn’t do any running and to still pull out a win against Thierry Karl in France with a knockout in round 11.
Aspirations: Seems a bit big but I want to be a world champion. I want to reach the height of boxing, to win one of the major world titles.
Preparations: I’ve been training really hard and I’m feeling very good; it’s all about fighting and I’m really looking forward to it.
The MaxiNutrition Knockout: It would mean everything to win this competition, boxing is all about winning and I’m here to win.
I’m not here to play games, I’m here to win the whole thing.
I cannot wait, I’ve been training up in Sheffield for nine years now, it’s been a long time and I’ve never fought in front of any of the fans there, so I’m relishing it – I cannot wait to fight there.
I want to be fighting regular and in this tournament I know the fights are there and I know they can happen, plus it’s on Channel 5, terrestrial TV, so I’m really looking forward to it and get more of a following – its a great platform.
Who Danny considers his biggest threat in the competition: Every single one of them is my main competition. Every time you get into that ring you’re at risk of getting hurt so I’m not taking anyone lightly.
One fighter at a time, one destruction at a time.
What the fans can expect: Watch out, just watch out is all I can say. You’re going to see a big show on Saturday.
I’m not going to try and scare-monger anyone, at the end of the day they’re going to see what’s going to happen when I get in the ring and we’ll see how many of them come out of the first round.
Life outside of boxing: the I play the guitar and the piano, mainly classical, my favourite to play is Moonlight Sonata. On the guitar I play spanish and acoustic, but I mainly jam rather than play anything in particular.
Favourite films: You’ve got to say Enter the Dragon and I really liked Shawshank Redemption. But, I also enjoy my comedy, so Liar Liar is definitely up there and I like my comedians – Jack Dee and Lee Evans.
Favourite music: Nothing particular really. I like a bit of everything from Classical to Motown and Blues, Pop, all sorts really. At the minute in my car I have Wretch 32 and Ray Charles.
