Jhonny says Mares rematch could land in February

WBC featherweight champion, Johnny González says the rumour mill suggests he could be back in the ring with Abner Mares this coming February!

“Until a few days ago I thought that negotiations were cancelled. But my promoters and his are still working on this. I’ve heard it could take place in February in Los Angeles or San Antonio, Texas.

“They only thing that I’ve requested is a good purse. At the beginning they refused to pay, but after people kept talking about this fight they might accept to pay me what’s fair” Jhonny said, adding:

“I keep training in the gym, I’m always trying to be at my best shape so I can be ready.”

Jhonny regained the WBC title with a spectacula one round KO of Abner Mares in Carson, California.

“I have three fights signed with Golden Boy Promotions, which I will fulfill. I hope to face Mares, then I’ll give a title shot to Robinson Castellanos because he has earned it.

“I want next year to be very busy, and that by the end of 2014 I’ll be ready to fight for the super featherweight title. For the time being, I want to face Abner!”
