PHOENIX – Boxing in Arizona is alive and well, as Iron Boy Promotions kicks off Iron Boy 22 fight week, and its second consecutive fight week in a row.   Phoenix boxing fans are still reeling from Jose Benavidez Jr.’s successful world title defense last Friday at US Airways Center versus a very game Jorge Paez, Jr.

That event, produced by Top Rank Boxing in association with Iron Boy Promotions, brought new faces out to enjoy Arizona’s talent, and furthered Arizona’s re-emergence as a boxing hotbed in the eyes of fans nationwide, as the event was televised nationally on TruTV.

Iron Boy Promotions returns to Celebrity Theatre Saturday to showcase up-and-coming Phoenix and Tucson talent, and will once again offer boxing fans a free, high quality live stream of the event at www.ironboyboxing.com.

In his first hometown appearance in over a year, 23-year old welterweight Jose Marruffo (5-2-1, 0KO) will face Tucson’s Rashawn McCain (2-3, 0KO) in a six round contest.  Both fighters are known for their all-in, all-heart style in the ring.  It’s this style that earned Marruffo respect of boxing fans in New Mexico when he dropped a controversial decision to Albuquerque’s Josh Torres in August of last year.

Torres walked away with the USNBC title, but Marruffo won the crowd with a spectacular performance that was overlooked by the judges.  Local boxing media embraced Marruffo as their own, keeping Albuquerque fans up to date on his career progress. Marruffo has since earned his fifth victory, winning a wide unanimous decision over favored Alberto Herrera, brother of Mauricio Herrera, in a six round contest in Herrera’s hometown in March.

Emilio “Milo Time” Garcia (9-1-1, 2KO) makes his long-awaited return to the ring Saturday, in a six round super bantamweight bout.  It will be Garcia’s first fight this year, and his fans are greatly anticipating the opportunity to call out, “What time is it?” as Garcia makes his way to the ring.  The answer, by the way, is “Milo Time,” and Garcia looks to impress in his 2015 debut.

Iron Boy Boxing’s newest signee, Tucson-based junior welterweight Alfonso Olvera, makes his Phoenix debut at Iron Boy 22. Olvera is coming off a majority decision win over California’s Abraham Lopez on the undercard of May 1st’s Beltran vs. Ao card in Las Vegas.

Iron Boy Boxing prospects Junior Rodriguez (1-0, 1KO) and Edgar Brito (3-1-1, 2KO) make their returns in separate bouts.  Rodriguez was slated to fight at Iron Boy 20 in April, but was sidelined with an illness during fight week. Rodriguez wowed fans in his debut, scoring a first round knockout over Fernando Alvarez in his February professional debut.

Nate Gallimore, Eddie De La Huerta and Edgar Nava round out the card.

The official Iron Boy 22 weigh-in will take place Friday, May 22nd at Crescent Crown Distributing, 1640 W. Broadway Road in Mesa at 5p.m.  It is open to the public and fans are encouraged to attend.

Iron Boy 22 takes place this Saturday, May 23rd at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona.  Doors are at 4pm, and first bell is at 5pm.  The event streams live and free beginning at 7:30PST at www.ironboyboxing.com. Tickets are priced $30, 50 and 65, and are available at www.ironboyboxing.com or at the Celebrity Theatre Box Office.
