Invicta FC 13 delivers big results in Las Vegas

In the middle of International Fight Week hosted by the UFC in Las Vegas, Neveda nothing could be better than for Invicta Fighting Championship to have their event be part of the big festivities. The Cosmopolitan played host to the event which saw a packed house of fans arrive for their latest installment.
Featherweight Title: Cristiane Justino stops Faith Van Duin in the first round.

Once again the hands of Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino proved to be too much for an opponent. A game Duin tried to engage Justino but was soon met with an exchange of punches. After an exchange Duin found herself on the floor defending herself from punches till the referee had seen enough at: 45 sec of round one crowning the winner by TKO Justino.


“I train hard for every fight and work very hard. Thank you for everybody coming to my fight. Today is my birthday,” said Justino.
She stated a desire to fight again in September and said she is willing to make 135 lbs in order to meet Ronda Rousey in a fight.
With the victory Justino retains her Featherweight title and continues her streak of dominance over the division.
After the fight Justino made it clear she would like to get return to action in September but after speaking with her manager George Prajin he explained that October might be the better month.
“Well Invicta already announced their plans for the September card so I’ll speak to them and we’ll look to get her (Justino) back in there in October,” said Prajin.
Bantamweight Title: Tonya Evinger scores a 4th round TKO over Irene Aldana

This was a fight that was supposed to be a coming out party for the young fighter Aldana but the battle tested Evinger had other plans. After three and a half rounds Evinger had secured that title of champion that had eluded her for so long. A series of punches from the mount was enough for the referee to call a stop to the fight at 4:38 sec in 4th round crowning the winner by TKO Tanya Evinger.


A wild first round sees Aldana in trouble multiple times as Evinger is able to take the mount and drop punches to her face. Soon after she was able to almost have two armbars that seemed to be in pretty tight but somehow Aldana found a way to survive. A clear and dominant round for the veteran Evinger.
The second round had a slower pace but Evinger still secured top position. With this she was able to gain an advantage after a takedown and control most of the round.
The third and the fourth round were more of the same till a mount in the final round. That’s when Evinger pinned the shoulders of Aldana with her knees while delivering punches to the face.
After a content Evinger had a few things to say. “I’ve been doing this for a long time and I’m still pretty,” said Evinger.
The pace of the fight was taxing even for the more experienced Evinger who said she had to throw up after the third.
“I threw up after the third round. That was disgusting. Invicta treats me right and this is my home,” said Evinger.

Atomweight Title: Ayaka Hamasaki upsets Herica Tiburcio

After five close rounds of action the first title fight of the card was decided. The scores were 48-47 Tiburcio , 48-47 Hamasaki , 48-47 for the winner and new Atomweight Champion Ayaka Hamasaki.
After the fight she would express how pleased she was with the result. “I’m very happy with the win,” said Hamasaki.

Bantamweight: Pannie Kianzad decisions Jessica-Rose Clark

After three hard fought fight the winner by unanimous decision is Pannie Kianzad. A very slick ground game kept her in control when the fight hit the ground. The final round saw Kianzad display her striking skills as she repeatedly landed a kick to the legs of Clark followed by a one-two combination upstairs with her punches. The jab and right hand proved enough to win her all three judges’ scorecards that read 30-27 in favor of Kianzad.

 

Atomweight: Amber Brown submits Catherine Costigan

Amber Brown wasted little time in establishing control of the fight with an aggressive display of strikes. Soon she would score a takedown before moving into the mount where she struck down with elbows. This forced Costigan to give up her back and neck where she was submitted at 3:31 of round one with a rear naked choke.

Strawweight: Jamie Moyle earns a split decision over Amy Montenegro

After three tough rounds the scorecards read 29-28 Moyle , 29-28 Montenegro , 29-28 in favor of Moyle who wins


The fight went the distance with both fighters trying to control the clinch. Montenegro with her stand up and Moyle with her grappling. In the end two of the three judges scored it in favor of Moyle who remains undefeated improving to 3-0.
Featherweight: Amber Leibrock upsets Marina Shafir by TKO

First upset of the night goes to Amber Leibrock who stops Marina Shafir in the first round with a barrage of punches after dropping her with a right hand.


The stoppage comes at :37 of round one. Amber Leibrock is the winner by TKO victory in her professional debut.
Shafir never recovered from the first right hand Leibrock landed clean and was soon taking another to the chin which dropped her. Soon after she followed with a punches from the top till Shafir could no longer defend herself.
Much of the talk going into this fight was about Shafir who is a friend of UFC Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey. But a game Leibrock refused to give into the buzz
