GOLOVKIN’S PERFORMANCE MAY OPEN DOORS TO BIGGER FIGHTS

WBO middleweight champion undefeated Gennady Golovkin  (25-0, 22 KO’s) win against the bloody but game Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KO’s) this past Saturday night at the Theater in Madison Square Garden, left some wondering how good Glovkin really is. Even though he battered Rosado causing a cut over the left eye in the 2nd round and eventually making his face a bloody mess he would have his moments  in the fight making Golovkin miss at times and connecting some big punches of his own backing Glovkin up. Rosado tried not to stay in front of Glovkin with lateral movement  and moving his head trying to give him angles but it was just not enough to keep the hard punching Golovkin away who was putting tremendous pressure on Rosado.

It was evident that Golovkin was the stronger of the two but despite the punishment he dished out on Rosado, he seemed slow at times and sluggish as the fight went on. Now when Golovkin used his jab he made the fight easier on himself often knocking Gabriel’s head back. That also led with him doing some good inside work landing brutal right and left hands and uppercuts. The fight would  be stopped in the 7th round by Rosado’s corner throwing in the towel causing some confusion because referee Steve Smoger couldn’t tell what was going on because he had his back to the corner.

There was some talk of Golovkin being sick two days before the fight almost calling the fight off. That may have contributed to the kind of performance he had this Saturday. When interviewed he himself was not satisfied with the way things ended. This may open doors for a guy who is being avoided because of how dangerous he seems to be. May not be the case anymore.
