GAVIN AIMS TO WIN LONSDALE BELT OUTRIGHT AGAINST BARNES AT COPPER BOX ARENA

frank warren promotions logoBirmingham star Frankie Gavin will defend his British and Commonwealth Welterweight titles against David Barnes on Saturday 21st September at the Copper Box Arena in London.

Gavin will feature on a multi-title extravaganza alongside British stars Billy Joe Saunders v John Ryder, plus Dereck Chisora, Paul Butler and Liam Walsh v Joe Murray, all live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).

Undefeated Gavin aims to make the treasured Lonsdale belt his own property with a successful third defence against the Manchester southpaw who has won the British Welterweight title outright, and also won the title at light-welterweight.

The 27-year-old defeated Junior Witter to win the British title and has made two defences against Jason Welborn and Denton Vassell – winning both fights with sensational seventh round stoppages.

The win against Vassell in June was his most impressive to date when he broke Vassell’s jaw and took his Commonwealth belt and unbeaten record.

“This is a special night for me at the Copper Box Arena when my dream to own the Lonsdale belt will come true,” Said Gavin.

“I’m looking forward to this fight more than any other in my career, Barnes is a tough, tough, kid, he was a British champion at two-weights and deserves respect, but there is no way he’s going to beat me on the night, no way at all,”

“I’m producing the best boxing of my career right now, I’m dedicated to my sport and there is tons more to come from me, so to lose it against Barnes is just not going to happen,”

“I took Vassell, who was an undefeated champion, apart in seven rounds and he was supposed to give me my hardest fight, so just imagine what I’m going to do to Barnes.”

He added, “I’m taking nothing for granted though, I’m going to torture myself in training and make sure that I’m the fittest, fastest and strongest I’ve ever been and that everyone is going to see something very special from me on the night.”
