On Saturday night, Golden Boy Promotions brings another action filled boxing card to the Lone Star State. This card should provide the same spark as the previous card held earlier this year which still has the San Antonio fight fans buzzing. Leading up to the Main Even KO artist Keith “One Time” Thurman, who took a portion of the welterweight crown (WBA interim) back in the summer, will make his first defense against Soto Karass. Karass also fought on the same card beating Andre Berto. Soto Karass stunned most fight fans and many observers stopping Berto in the 12th round which he was a heavy underdog.

  • The Take: While I am a big fan of Keith Thurman, I really want to see him in with some quality opposition, I think this is a great match up, a better one than some expect. While Thurman should win this fight, it wont be so easy and it will provide a true test to the grit of the champ. Look for Karass to apply constant pressure early and through out the middle rounds, I do think the power of Thurman will wear on Karass as the fight goes on. Look for a stoppage late in the fight, Karass has too much heart for his own good and will eat a lot of leather. I also believe during this week that the handlers have pounded the fact that Kieth is in San Antonio, Texas this time around. SAN DIEGGGOOOOO!!
The Main Event features another world championship fight. WBA welterweight champion Adrian “The Problem” Broner, who defeated PauliMalignaggi earlier this year to claim his portion of the welterweight crown, will make  the first defense of his title against the tough as nails and hard punching Marcos “El Chino” Maidana. Maidana is coming off his best performance to date, stopping a very game Josesito Lopez in the 6th round.

  • The Take: I really feel that Broner wins this fight pretty easily. Now I know, this is the “most dangerous fight” of Broner’s young career right? But let’s face it, there isn’t a lot of quality opposition on his resume to stack it up against. I am in the minority, but I really feel that his fight with Malignaggi was super close, a fight I had Paulie winning. And going in I thought would be a lopsided loss for the Magic Man. To Mr. Band Camps credit I do think he may have taken Malignaggi a little light. I do not expect that tonight,Broner looks in “beast mode” shape and beyond his flamboyant facade, Broner is a truly gifted and talented fighter inside the squared circle. Maidana has made tremendous improvements under the tutelage of last years trainer of the year, Robert Garcia, but I do not feel it will be enough to make up for the ring generalship, footwork, power and speed that will be on display from “The Problem”. Broner looks determined as ever to make a huge statement, look for a majority decision in a fun filled, action fight in favor of the Champ. The Boxeo Mundial staff also weighs in. Staff Picks:

Armondo Romo: This match should resemble Pacquiao vs. Margarito or Mayweather vs. Baldomir w/ Broner playing the part of Manny/Floyd. “The Problem” lacked that showcase performance for his first swim in the welterweight waters, this time around the Cincinnati kid will shine behind a signature performance.Adrien Broner by stoppage in the second half of the fight
Jose Maritno: I cant get out of my mind the ease with which Devon Alexander beat Maidana a few fights back. At the time some people mentioned that this was due to Maidana not being a welter, but Devon is not a big welter and had moved up himself not too long ago, so I don’t believe size played a big role as others did. For me it was all about Alexander’s boxing abilities and Maidana’s inability to land his punches against a crafty fighter that night. I think Broner will be capable of moving and outboxing Maidana in similar fashion, although I don’t think it will be as easy now that Maidana has had sometime to fully grow in to the division and has spent sometime in the Garcia gym improving his craft. I’m going to with Broner, by unanimous decision by a 116-112 type score. Should be a fun fight. Maidana will be looking to takeBroner’s head off for twelve rounds.
JC Casarez: For a guy who uses the shoulder roll Broner still gets hit plenty by lesser fighters. For Maidana to pull off upset the pressure will have to be non-stop and he must cut off the ring. Tough fight for both with Broner edging a decision.
