Conor McGregor fulfills his promise and takes out Poirier in one, wants title shot next

The chants from the thousands of Irish fans in attendance at the MGM Grand in Lasd Vegas, began as soon as their country’s new UFC hero, Conor McGregor, made his way from the backstage to the octagon. Chants of Olee oleee Oleee Oleee Oleee Oleeee Connorr!! could be heard all throughout the arena. Before the fight Connor had predicted a first knock out and he delivered with a first round technical knockout over Dustin Porier. With the win Mcgregor improved to 16-2, and moved one stepped closer to a title shot.

Conor began his offensive early and would drop Poirier with a shot that appeared to graze the top of Dustin’s head, but landed with enough force to hurt Poirier.  Once he saw his opponent was down on the canvas, Connor wasted no time in following up the damage with more shots to his fallen foe.  With no punches being returned from Poirier, referee Herb Dean called a halt to the action. The official time of the stoppage was 1:36 of the first round.

“These featherweights don’t understand until they get hit by me, it’s a whole other thing to be hit by me,” Conor would tell Joe Rogan during his post-fight interview. Conor would continue saying, “I brought my whole country of Ireland with me, if one of us goes to war, we all go to war.”

As to who he wants next? Conor wasted no time in calling out featherweight UFC champion, Brazil’s Jose Aldo. “I‘ll fly to Brazil if they want. I want the title next. Bring the Brazilians over, we’ll whoop them at home”

At the post fight press conference Mcgregor would give his views on his fight with Poirier and possible fight with the winner of Jose Aldo vs Chad Mendes for the title.

“I believe I will dismantle both of them. Chad [Mendes] is a 5’6 overblown [bantamweight]. He should be at 125, but he’s gone past that limit. Now he’s just a small body builder. He’s 5’6″, I have an 8 inch reach advantage, I would tower over him. I would maul Chad. And Jose Aldo, I feel his in that pattern of deterioration.  Another easy win. The division seems to be full of rookies and has beens. So I’m just sitting here enjoying these checks, eliminating each one.”
