CALL CENTRE STAR NEV BACKS BIG MAC TO WIN

cleverly vs hovalev banner-17-8-13The Call Centre’s Neville Wilshire has backed fellow Swansea lad Enzo Maccarinelli to win the Commonwealth Light-Heavyweight title at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday 17th August.

‘Nev’, who is the star of the smash hit BBC3 series that follows his eccentric day-to-day running of the Save Britain Money call centre, is a big fan of the dynamite-punching former WBO World Cruiserweight champion and the pair have raised money together for the Stepping Stones Children’s charity.

Maccarinelli faces Commonwealth champion Ovill McKenzie again after the first fight last November ended in controversy when many felt that “Big Mac’ was stopped by the referee prematurely, and boxing barmy Nev will be at the Motorpoint Arena supporting him.

“I’m a big fan of Enzo’s, he’s a cracking fighter, being a Swansea boy myself of course I follow him and want him to do well so I’ll be there on the night support him.  I was also a big fan of two other great Swansea fighters, the British, Commonwealth and European Welterweight Champion Colin Jones and British Heavyweight Champion Neville Mead,” Said Nev.

“Enzo’s is a big name in Swansea and I’d love to see him win the world title again, but first he’s got to beat McKenzie and win the Commonwealth belt that he was robbed of last time out.  The boy can bang and my money’s on him knocking this McKenzie lad out, who’s pretty tough by all accounts, but Enzo can do the business.  I’m predicting three rounds, three’s a godly number, like the trinity.”

Nev, who bases his management style on Napolean and uses wacky modern managerial skills to motivate his sales team with catchphrases like “Smile when you dial!” and “Get on your horse and ride” and enforced karaoke singing, says he can give Maccarinelli a pep talk if need be.

He added, “If Enzo’s flagging in the fight, which I doubt he will be, but if he does then I’ll repeat what the great John Wayne once said, ‘Failure isn’t falling off the horse, it’s about bouncing back and getting back on it’.  Enzo’s fallen off the horse a few times in the last few years, but he keeps bouncing back and I know he’ll do it at the Motorpoint Arena.”

McKenzie v Macarinelli features as chief support to Nathan Cleverly’s WBO World Light-Heavyweight title defence against hard-hitting Russian Sergey Kovalev at the Motorpoint Arena.  Also on the card is Cardiff’s Gary Buckland defending his British Super-Featherweight title against Stephen Smith, plus Lewis Rees challenging for the Vacant Celtic Welterweight title.  John Thain and Ronnie Heffron battle it out in an Eliminator for the British Light-Middleweight title, with top prospects Craig Evans and Liam Williams looking to maintain their unbeaten records.  Three exciting talents make their professional debuts: Danni Griffiths, Aled Cook and Rhys Evans.
