BETFRED set for KO at Wembley and Cardiff fight nights

frank warren promotions logoFrank Warren Promotions and The Channel of Champions BoxNation have teamed up with betting giants BETFRED once again, for two British blockbuster fight nights this summer.

BETFRED will be the title sponsor for the bumper Behind Enemy Lines card at Wembley Arena on 20th July, which is headlined by one of boxing’s most enigmatic figures, Dereck Chisora, who faces off against unbeaten American Malik Scott.

Then the Warrington-based bookmaker will take the role again on the 17th August, when World Championship boxing returns to Wales, as World Light Heavyweight Champion Nathan Cleverly takes on the man American broadcasters HBO are calling their ‘Next Big Thing’, Sergey ‘The Krusher’ Kovalev, at the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena.

BETFRED boss Fred Done said: “Both the Wembley and Cardiff events will show British boxing at its best. Chisora is a controversial character and will always make for an exciting fight, and Cleverly is on the top of his game, so I’m looking forward to what I’m sure will be an action packed night of top British boxing.”

Frank Warren said: “I’m delighted to work with Betfred once again for our two big summer events and would like to thank Fred Done for his tremendous support towards our shows. Both the Wembley and Cardiff events are headlined by extremely close to call fights, so I’m sure there will some cracking odds available from Betfred for anyone who fancies a flutter.”

Behind Enemy Lines at Wembley Arena and Red Mist: Cleverly vs. Kovalev at The Cardiff Arena will both be broadcast live on BoxNation in the UK (Sky Ch. 437, Virgin Media Ch. 546), the World’s only dedicated boxing channel, who last year became the UK’s fastest growing independent subscription channel.

Cleverly and Kovalev’s huge World Title showdown will also be screened live on HBO in the USA, as slick Welshman Cleverly looks to start making waves in the USA by impressing on his first outing in the network.

Both bills also feature a tremendous undercard. On the Wembley card, former Olympian Billy Joe Saunders, takes on tough Irishman Gary O’Sullivan, who currently sits at #4 in the WBO World Middleweight rankings. Both men are unbeaten and the winner is likely to be looking towards world title challenge early next year.

On 17th August, Nathan Cleverly is joined on the bill by Ricky Hatton promoted British Super-Featherweight Champion, Gary Buckland, who makes his BoxNation debut in an exciting clash against Liverpool’s Stephen Smith.

Also on the Cardiff bill, former Cruiserweight World Champion Enzo Maccarinelli takes on Ovill McKenzie for the Commonwealth Light Heavyweight Championship.
