Robert Garcia: “Rios vs Pacquiao, what can we expect? a great action packed fight”

Robert Garcia, trainer to Brandon Rios, Mikey Garcia and other champions and top ranked fighters was at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas Nevada this past Friday to work the corner of one of his fighters, Erick De Leon. De Leon would come away with a points victory over Alejandro Ochoa, giving Garcia a victory to celebrate that night.

After the fight Garcia was gracious in speaking to us about several of his fighters and their upcoming fights. Here is what he had to say

On Brandon Rios vs Manny Pacquiao…

“Brandon is already training and we are already practicing things that we are working on for that fight. Running in the morning, training three times a week; we still have 5 weeks, so were going little by little, we can’t push him too fast. But it’s going to be a great fight, full of action. Both fighters bring a great style for the boxing fans so what can we expect? a great action packed fight.”

On Mikey Garcia vs Roman ‘Rocky’ Martinez…

“Mickey is a big featherweight, so he will be a perfect jr. lightweight. I think if we come up with a good game plan and beat Rocky, we can’t look ahead, but there so many big fights that can happen after that. But we have to focus on Rocky.”

On a future fight between Mickey Garcia vs Yuriorkis Gamboa…

“Mickey wants that fight actually. Mickey has always said that he wanted that fight. He knows he can beat him, so it’s a fight that we definitely love. But we still have to fight and beat Martinez before we can think about anyone else. But it’s very possible that it could be our following fight if everything goes well.”

On Marcos Maidana vs Adrien Broner …

“That’s the fight we want, that’s the fight we like. I know that’s up to Broner right now, we can’t call that shot, it’s up to him. Broner is at that level where he calls the shot, he calls whoever he wants to fight and if he picks us to fight we will be ready for it. The fight is not easy, the fight would be very hard but we want it, and if not, Maidana fights for the vacant title. Broner might want to go down to 140, I can’t say what he might want to do.”

On Nonito Donaire losing to Guillermo Rigondeaux…

“It was very tough, but I think it was a learning experience; Not only for Donaire, but for myself, and everyone in camp with Donaire. Donaire knocking out Montiel the way he did. Just winning so many fights the way he did, very easy. It came to a point where training wasn’t as well as its supposed to be. So all this is learning experience, not only for Donaire, but also for myself.”
