DARON CRUICKSHANK (16-7) LIGHTWEIGHT

ON IMPORTANCE OF WRESTLING:
It’s huge. I believe that having a wrestling background is huge for potential guys that want to do mixed martial arts. Because not only what you learn – the takedowns and all the grappling – but the hardships that you learn day in and day out: going to practice, cutting weight, having to do all your schoolwork, competing at a high level all the time.
The mental toughness that you gain from just one wrestling season in general is crazy. It’s huge for any guys that want to fight mixed martial arts later in their career.
ON LEARNING MARTIAL ARTS FROM PARENTS:
I have a great relationship with my father. It’s a working relationship when we’re in the gym – and if anybody’s ever worked with their parents or their family, you know it gets kind of hairy sometimes.
But we always work things out. We see each other every single day. And Iknow that they have my back. We are blood; we are family and I never doubt anything they ever say to me.
