MIKEY GARCIA: I WANT TO SEND AN INVITATION TO YURIOKIS GAMBOA

A fight that was supposed to probably be billed as a candidate for fight of the year did not live to the hype. But what did was Mikey Garcia’s performance against Orlando Salido (39-12-12, 27 KO’s) who despite his 11 loses was going into his fight against Garcia (31-0, 26 KO’s) with 5 straight knockouts and gave the former featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez  his first two losses of his career by two technical knockouts.

This fight was considered a dangerous fight for the young Garcia who himself is undefeated in 30 fights with 26 knockouts. It would be the other way around with Garcia knocking down Salido in the twice in the first once in the third and one more time in the 4th with a total of 4 knockdown leaving Salido in a huge deficit early in the fight.

Salido would continue to pressure Garcia but was ineffective when he would get in close because Mikey would either clinch or use his footwork to get away. It would be all Garcia landing at will cause a swelling of right eye of Salido. Things would come to a halt in the start of the ninth, when in the 8th Salido jumped in to try to land a left and headbutted Garcia, breaking his nose. The fight would go to the scorecards giving Garcia the unanimous decision with scores of 79-70, 79-69 twice.

When asked about who is he looking at as his next opponent Mikey responded I want to unify the titles now that I hold one. I want to extend an invitation to Yuriokis Gamboa. If he ever wants to come down we can meet 130 or 35 whatever weight
