Two-time world champion boxer Jessie Vargas, coming off his March 5 TKO victory over Sadam Ali, will be recognized by the Clark County Commission Tuesday, March 15 at 9 a.m. for his work improving the lives of Las Vegas-area at-risk youth.
The WBO welterweight champion has been a driving force behind the creation of a boxing program serving youth detained at Spring Mountain Youth Camp. The program, created in January 2015, aims to boost the teens’ confidence, discipline and sense of accomplishment to help prepare them for a smooth transition into the community, where they can live productive lives.

Vargas also arranges continued training opportunities in Las Vegas for those youth who wish to continue training in the sport after they leave Spring Mountain Youth Camp. Vargas was not only instrumental in creating the program but also makes many regular visits to the camp to inspire the youth and to train with them.

Vargas is the WBO welterweight champion after scoring a ninth-round, TKO win over Ali on March 5. Vargas previously held the WBA welterweight title.
