HOT SHOT COSTELLO TARGETS FIRST TITLE THIS YEAR

JOE COSTELLORed hot lightweight prospect Joe Costello could be looking at his first title fight this year if comes through this Saturday night at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

The exciting 21-year-old aims for win number four against Sandor Horvath in a six round contest and a win will see him move up to an eight rounder followed by a potential first title challenge.

Costello has looked sensational since turning pro last year, marking his debut with a first round stoppage of Youssef Al Hamidi, followed by a points win over Lee Connolly and then halting Jordan Vasilev in three rounds last time out in November.

Flame-haired Costello, the former amateur world number one, has been racking up the rounds in sparring with stable-mate and WBO European Light-Welterweight Champion Jack Catterall in the build up to Saturday and will be out to impress against Horvath.

“It’s great times ahead and I can’t wait to have my first fight this year on Saturday night,” Said Costello.

“First thing’s first, I’ve got to deal with Horvath, who’s a decent fighter from Hungary, and make sure I do a decent job on him and then look ahead at what’s next because anything can change in this business,”

“Obviously talk of a title fight this year is very exciting and I’m glad that my management and promotional team have great faith in me and my ability.   It would be fantastic to get a belt around my waist this year, but I’m focusing on fight-to-fight and what’s ahead of me right now and that’s Horvath,”

Costello will also be keeping a close eye on the main event between Stephen Ormond and Terry Flanagan in their WBO European Lightweight Title clash and Eliminator for the WBO World title.

He added, “It’s a cracking fight between two of the top guys in the division and, of course, I aim to be where they are one day.  I’ve sparred with Terry before and I reckon that he’ll win the fight on points.  Terry’s better and more sharp work rate, plus his angles and long arms will win him the fight.”

Promoted by Frank Warren, in association with P.J Rowson, the WBO European Lightweight clash between Ormond and Flanagan, which doubles as an Eliminator for the WBO World title headlines the action-packed card that also features Welsh super-featherweight Craig Evans; Swindon middleweight Jamie Cox; lightweight prospect Joe Costello; Redditch middleweight Andrew Robinson; Corby cruiserweight Simon Barclay; Tipton light-heavyweight Ricky Summers; Dudley light-middleweight Ryan Aston; Swansea bantamweight Jay Harris and the professional debut of Birmingham super-bantamweight Razza Hamza.
