George ‘Hit Hard’ Hillyard Returns To The Fray On 1st March
George ‘Hit Hard’ Hillyard makes his long awaited return to the ring, on the Dave Murphy Acourtier Events promoted double WBU Europe Championship headed WARZONE event at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 1st March.
George, who was one of the brightest stars on the amateur scene, clocking up an impressive 39 wins from 49 bouts, turned pro in 2005 and was signed by Barry Hearn to his Matchroon Sport promotional outfit.
George ‘s pro career started well, four stoppage victories and a solid points win in his first six fights, but after his son Oscar was born partially blind, George found it hard to focus on his career.
In 2010, George decided to put his career on hold, focusing instead on working closely with the Doctors at the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London, to provide the best care that he could for his son.
Throughout the years the lure of the ring still nagged at George, which led to him competing in semi-pro and celebrity bouts, but this wasn’t nowhere enough to quench his thirst to compete for Championship honours, so in January 2014 George successfully re-applied for a pro license.
Speaking earlier George said of his return to the pro ranks.
“ Yeah, I can’t wait. I’m buzzing, really buzzing to showcase my talent, I’m back and it’s time to do it now.
No more talking, I’ve done plenty of that in the past, now it’s time to get out there and really show people George ‘Hit Hard’ Hillyard is back.
I’ll be out soon, on the 1st March at York Hall in Bethnal Green, which is great as it’s in my manor.
Boxer’s say this week in and week out, that they are going to be this or be that, I’m not going to say that, but I’m a new George Hillyard.
I’ve got a new coach, Danny, I’ve known him years, but what he bought to the table for me, as well as the little tricks he’s taught me, I believe that I’m going to come back better than ever.
No more talking, you’re going to see it on the 1st March, you’ll see a classy performance from me for sure.
I’ve got all the tools here, in the past my problem was my focus and dedication, sometimes I got be beat by people that weren’t in my class, no disrespect to them, they were not in my class but they ended up beating me because I wasn’t fit or focused.
It’s not how good you are, it’s how prepared you are, in the pro game you need dedication, if you put the work in, you get rewarded for it.
I’d like to say a big thanks to the fans that have stood by me, I know I’ve been away from the pros, fighting on the unlicensed scene, but you’ve always come out to support me, now it’s time for me to repay you and go onto bigger and better things, hopefully in time a title shot.”
