GAVIN: I’LL BLOW AWAY SPRINGSTEEN AND ELTON JOHN!
British welterweight star Frankie Gavin aims to outshine superstars Bruce Springsteen and Elton John when he defends his Commonwealth title at Leeds’ First Direct Arena on Saturday 21st December, live and exclusive on the Channel of Champions, BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).
The undefeated Birmingham ace, who won outright his British title against David Barnes, will defend his Commonwealth title against a challenger to be announced on the show promoted by Dennis Hobson in association with Queensberry Promotions, headlined by Stuart Hall challenging for the Vacant IBF World Bantamweight title against Vusi Malinga.
Gavin, who’s lighting fast hands and heavy-handed combinations have stopped 12 out of his 17 opponents, defeated Jason Welborn in January inside seven rounds and followed that up in June by dismantling previously undefeated Denton Vassell to claim the Commonwealth title in seven rounds, before beating Barnes over the distance in September.
The 27-year-old is now looking forward to raising the roof at the first ever professional boxing event to be held at the state-of-the-art venue that only opened in July and has so far seen Bruce Springsteen and Elton John perform.
“What a way to end the year with another explosive performance at a new venue in front of a new audience and spread the word that Frankie Gavin is the real deal,” Said Gavin.
“If fans were blown away by Bruce Springsteen and Elton John wait until they see Frankie Gavin in action, I’ll be belting out some hits on December 21st when I defend my Commonwealth title in devastating style”.
“In fact I’ll be the Rocket Man delivering some bombs in the ring as I look to close 2013 undefeated. I’ve achieved the dream of winning the British title outright and the dream is now to win the European title and climb the rankings for a world title shot in 2014”.
“The welterweight division is probably the best in the world at the moment, packed with the biggest names and I can’t wait to start facing them, Whoever is in front of me on December 21st is going to get smashed”.
