Andy Vences defeats unbeaten Casey Ramos for WBC Continental Americas Title

Undefeated super featherweight Andy “El Tiburon” Vences (17-0 10KOs) of San Jose, CA earned his first title of his young career as he picked up the WBC Continental Americas super featherweight title defeating one of the best prospects signed to Top Rank, Casey “The Wizard” Ramos (23-1 6KOs) of Austin, Texas.

Vences who won the bout via a technical decision after a few massive cuts opened on Ramos forehead after Referee Vic Drakulich stopped the action after the doctor refused to allow Ramos to continue. Since it was ruled a head butt the fight went to the judges scorecard as they saw the bout 87-84, 86-85 and 88-83 all in favor of the pride of San Jose, CA. After the bout Vences’ was happy about the win, but also saw that improvements need to be made.

“I am glad to have gotten the win and the belt, it is a dream come true, but at the same time I need to fix somethings and work on some stuff on the gym.”
After the fight, both fighters went to the hospital as Ramos had some facial laceration and Vences had a cut on the back of the head from an elbow.

Vences after the bout spent ten minutes to talking to one of his idols in the boxing world, Terence Crawford as he asked Crawford’s reflection on the fight. Vences, who was being a harsh critic of his performance was told by Crawford that the reason he is undefeated currently is how harsh he is on himself right now.

Vences is trained by Gabe Flores Sr. out of the Los Gallos Boxing Academy in Stockton, CA and travels three hours a day to work with Flores Sr.

Vences is hoping to return in early 2017 in either Northern or Central California
