Wilkes-Barre, PA: Anthony “Flawless” Flores (11-4-1, 6 KOs) is coming off a major upset victory over then-undefeated Mike Faragon. On June 21, he’ll face undefeated Karl “Dynamite” Dargan in a challenge for Dargan’s USBA Atlantic Coast Region Lightweight Title at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Flores is looking to take down another undefeated opponent but will he be able to match Dargan’s speed? The scouting report for this fight is below:
Category |
Karl “Dynamite” Dargan |
Anthony Flores |
Age |
28 |
26 |
Record |
15-0 (7 KOs) |
11-4-1 (6 KOs) |
Strength | Dargan is a boxer with great speed. He is elusive, making him tough to hit. He has great amateur experience as well. | Flores has experience in the ring against top competition. He is coming off a huge upset win over then-undefeated Mike Faragon, so he may have a better mental outlook coming into this fight. |
Weakness | Dargan is not very busy and has not yet been tested against the top competition. | Flores has four losses. He has been stopped once so his chin is questionable. |
Experience | Dargan’s amateur experience is better than Flores. He has sparred with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and “Sugar” Shane Mosley. | Even though Flores lost, he went the distance with Arash Usmanee, a former contender. He has fought better opposition than Dargan. |
Power | When Dargan puts his punches together he is very powerful. | Flores’ power is fairly comparable to Dargan’s. Neither fighter is a one-punch knockout artist. |
Speed | Dargan gets the edge with regards to speed. “His speed has the ability to take away his opponent’s offense,” according to Main Events’ matchmaker Jolene Mizzone. | Flores has average speed. |
Endurance | This will be the second ten-rounder of Dargan’s career (the other was unanimous decision victory over Michael Brooks when he won his USBA Atlantic Coast Region Title) and he has only had one eight-rounder. His endurance has not been tested. | Flores has never fought in a ten-rounder before. He fought in one eight-rounder which he lost via split decision (Arash Usmanee, October 8, 2010). |
Defense | Dargan’s best asset is his defense. He has never been stopped although he has been down. He has a tendency, however, to lose focus at times. | Flores’s offense is his best defense. |
Chin | The undefeated Dargan has been down before and has always managed to get back up. | The only time Flores was stopped he was fighting at a lower weight. He has not been stopped since moving up to lightweight. |
Style | Dargan is a boxer with quick hands and quick feet. | Flores is an ‘in your face’ offensive fighter. He is a crowd pleaser. |
Intangibles | Rather than sit around waiting for the big fight, Dargan would rather stay busy. He has legendary trainer Naazim Richardson in his corner. Richardson is a top trainer and also Dargan’s uncle. | After Flores’ fourth loss he took almost three years off to redefine himself. After upsetting Faragon, he wants to stay in the mix with top level competition. |
Crowd Support | Dargan is from Philadelphia so expect a decent crowd of his supporters at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Also with his highly publicized relationship with R&B singer Lil’ Mo, expect there to be a lot of her fans hoping to catch a glimpse of “Dynamo” together. | Flores is also from Philadelphia so he should have a significant number of supporters in the crowd in Wilkes-Barre as well. |
The Match-Up | Dargan is looking to prove he is ready to take on the next level and is facing a fighter who is coming off of a major upset victory. Flores will be looking to take down another undefeated opponent as the underdog.
