MIAMI – JUNE 17, 2013- “Boxeo Telemundo” is back and better than ever on Friday, June 21 at 11:35PM/10:35C with a marquee fight between Mexico’s own Julian “Chicano” Rivera and undefeated California native Matthew Villanueva at the Plaza Condesa Auditorium in Mexico City with the WBO Latin Super Featherweight Title on the line to kick off its summer season. Rene Giraldo, Jessi Losada and Karim Mendiburu will be calling the action and will also be interacting with fans on social media throughout the events. “Boxeo Telemundo” will also welcome Fernanda Castillo, star of the hit telenovela “El Señor de los Cielos” on Telemundo, as that night’s special guest interview.
This will mark the fourth appearance on “Boxeo Telemundo” for Rivera since last year, when he won three consecutive fights en route to challenging for the title. Rivera’s current record is 13-7 with two KOs, but his last fight was particularly dramatic as he lost in Argentina against Argentinean champion Juan Carlos Reveco (29-1, 6 KOs) in a unanimous decision. This time, Rivera will look to redeem himself in front of his hometown crowd.
Villanueva is a powerful and intimidating boxer that boasts a 9-0-1 record with and is one of the sport’s hidden gems with a lethal left hook and a ferocious uppercut, a combination that has knocked out all but two of his opponents so far. Villanueva is especially lethal in the beginning of the fight, since seven of his eight KOs have come in the first three rounds of the bout.
This fight represents a clash of styles, but only one of these two fighters will be crowned as a champion on “Boxeo Telemundo”, home to the best Latin boxers.
