Canelo Vs Berlanga… Worthy or not Worthy?

Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga is scheduled to take place September 14, 2024 on Mexican Independence weekend, for the lineal Super Middle Weight World Championship in Las Vegas, NV. What should be a classic rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico like Canelo’s epic match against Miguel Cotto where there was so much anticipation this is receiving a ton of backlash.

Many fans are not pleased with Canelo selecting Berlanga as his next opponent even though Berlanga is a young contender at 27 years old. He’s lost a lot of hype and credibility around him recently. When Berlanga first broke out into the scene he was knocking out everybody he faced in the first round, racking up 16 first round knockouts! Berlanga was being promoted as the next great Puerto Rican fighter like the greats Tito Trinidad and Miguel Cotto, but the buzz has gone down tremendously.

Berlanga who is usually a site to see has won his last six fights, but has only gotten one knockout which leaves fans a little unimpressed considering that he has yet to fight or beat anybody in the top 10 Super Middleweight Division. His fights have been a little questionable and missing the spark we were used to seeing, but could this be his chance to start up his spark once again?

Berlanga is not an uncredible opponent in this fight but his name isn’t David Benavidez! Canelo has received a lot of scrutiny these past three years for avoiding Benavidez when Benavidez has been the mandatory. It seems like every fight that passes by that isn’t “Canelo vs Benavidez” it is receiving rejection by the fans. Is Canelo Vs Berlanga Worthy or not Worthy?
