Ceylan-Walsh European title fight set for October 15 in Frederikshavn
Dennis Ceylan
Dennis Ceylan (17-0-1, 8 KOs) will face Ryan Walsh (21-1-1, 10 KOs) for the vacant European Featherweight title on October 15 when the Nordic Fight Night returns to the Arena Nord in Frederikshavn, Denmark.
For the first time since 2010, a Dane will contest the European title on home soil. Ceylan will be hoping to join an elite club of Danish fighters who have held the prestigious belt including Jørgen Hansen, Gert Bo Jakobsen, Jesper D. Jensen and the Bredahl brothers.
The 27 year-old from Aarhus will meet tough opposition from Walsh, the current British Featherweight Champion, who has only lost only one of his twenty-three professional contests, a points decision to current IBF World Champion Lee Selby. Despite his opponent’s pedigree, Ceylan is determined to retain his undefeated record and claim the coveted European title.
‘’I’m excited to have the date and venue confirmed for my European title challenge,’’ said Ceylan. ‘’Now the hard work can begin! This is a massive opportunity for me, and it’s a fight I must win. I will train harder than ever and enter the ring in the best possible shape.
‘’I know Walsh is a tough opponent, but there are no easy fights at this level. To reach the top I need to fight the best and that’s what I plan on doing. This is not just a big fight for me, but also for Danish boxing. I want to put Danish boxing back on the map and give the fans some fights to look forward to.’’
Ceylan will be returning to happy hunting ground at the Arena Nord, where he made his professional debut against Artsem Abmiotka in 2012 and has since recorded victories over Tommi Schmidt, Daniele Limone, Cristian Montilla and Elvis Guillen.
‘’This is where it all started for me,’’ said Ceylan. ‘’So it will be fun to fight for my first major title in Frederikshavn. It is a great arena and a place where I always get a lot of support from the fans.’’
Promoter Nisse Sauerland says he is pleased to have delivered Ceylan this European title challenge and is looking forward to bringing the Nordic Fight Night back to the Arena Nord.
‘’We’re delighted to be bringing this European title fight to Frederikshavn,’’ said Sauerland. ‘’October 15 is going to be a great night for Danish boxing. Dennis has worked hard and is very deserving of this opportunity. We’re confident, with the support of the public, that he can become Denmark’s next European Champion.’’
Alongside the main event, the Nordic Fight Night will feature a full undercard featuring the very best of Danish boxing. Tickets will go on sale on Monday (August 1) at 14.00 and are available online via www.arenanord.dk or by calling (+45) 96 20 10 50.
