Walsh, the undefeated Commonwealth Champion, makes the fourth defence of the title whilst looking to tear the British title from Sykes who makes the first defence of the belt that he won from Jon Kays in a thriller in May.
Both boxers are desperate to get it on in the ring once and for all to prove who is the best after seeing two previous scheduled bouts fall through due to injuries.
Cromer based Walsh said, “It’s going to be a massive, massive, night at the ExCeL and I just can’t wait for it to become a double champion by winning the British title,”
“I have great respect for Sykes, he put on a tremendous performance to win the British title against Kays earlier this year and I know that it’s not going to be a walk in the park for me,”
“I’m a warrior and will fight anybody put in front of me, Sykes is the same, he’s a real fighting man and you have to nail him to the floor to beat him, but there has to be a winner and a loser and I’m not leaving the ring without the British title in my hands,”
“With Chisora against Fury and Saunders against Eubank Jnr, and now me against Sykes it’s going to be a hell of a night!”
Sykes, from Dewsbury, said, “When I heard that this was going on the ExCeL card I couldn’t have been any happier,”
“This is the right stage for this fight, a big all-British card with big rivalries all to be settled on the night,”
“I’ve just won this British title so there is no way that it’s leaving me in my first defence. Walsh is the one big rival I haven’t faced yet and we can now finally find out who is the best,”
“Chisora v Fury and Saunders v Eubank Jnr. will take some beating, but I guarantee it will be an all-out war between me and Walsh.”
Promoter Frank Warren added, “I’m delighted to add another fantastic all-British battle on the card and there will be more exciting title fights to announce in the next few days. Walsh against Sykes is a cracking fight between two of the top super-featherweights in the country and I’m sure it will live up to it’s billing. With Chisora v Fury and Saunders v Eubank Jnr confirmed and now Walsh v Sykes, the show is shaping up into a huge night of championship boxing.”
