Voluntary for Cotto before Golovkin before Golvkin mandatory is due
World Boxing Council President, Mauricio Sulaiman says that WBC middleweight Champion Miguel Cotto, will have a voluntary defense before facing WBC Interim Champion Gennady Golovkin.
Cotto became WBC middleweight champion last June defeating Argentinian, Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez, in the tenth round at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Golovkin tore away the Interim crown from Marco Antonio “ Veneno “ Rubio, at the StubHub Center in Carson California, with a blitz, which culminated in a second round KO.
Mauricio said Cotto has a mandatory defence on May 5th, and the winner will then face and fight Golovkin. GGG has his own mandatory in February.
Mauricio said this is the second time he’s seen Golovkin fight describing his buzz saw style as very commercial. in a manner akin to Gennady’s idols Julio Cesar Chavez and Erik Morales.
