Video: Demetrious Johnson: I just go out and showcase my skills, and hopefully people will appreciate
“A lot more people appreciate Floyd Mayweather and his skill set because of the way he fights and they understand it, but let’s not forget everyone is not on the Mayweather bandwagon. He still has a huge amount of people that don’t like the way he fights. Like oh he’s a coward, he runs all the time. The name of the game of boxing is to be hit and not be hit. If you want to see two guys just slug it out, just go to a bar.”
“So when I come out there, I just come out there showcasing my skill set to where people, with time will hopefully appreciate it. Like, this guy has been out there, and he’s been fighting the best of the division and he hardly gets hit, he’s tearing these guys up and that’s the road I’m trying to go down.”
Demetrious Mighty Mouse” Johnson at UFC 178 Media day. Johnson will face Chris Cariaso in the main event of UFC 178
Demetrious’ nickname might be a fictional character but his continued reign as the greatest UFC flyweight to ever lace them up is a real as it gets. Winning the inaugural tournament back in 2012 for the title he has never looked back, easily defending his crown 4 straight times; be it by UD, rarely losing a round, or finishing his opponents inside the distance. As dominant as Johnson is he is still very humble as he talks to us on what challenger Chris Cariaso brings to the table in his 5th title defense and the first in Las Vegas.
About UFC 178
When UFC 178 lands in Las Vegas this week, the lineup will feature one of the best cards from top to bottom for all of 2014. The flyweight title is up for grabs in the main event as Demetrious Johnson looks for the fifth successful defense of his 125-pound title as he takes on top 10 fighter Chris Cariaso — but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is back in action as well at UFC 178, welcoming in UFC newcomer Eddie Alvarez, who brings with him one of the nastiest reputations for any fighter in the lightweight division. Irish bad boy Conor McGregor also looks to conquer United States soil once again when he gets the biggest test of his UFC career in No. 5 ranked Dustin Poirier.
