Top Ten Reasons You Should Be a Dynamite Dargan Fan

Philadelphia, PA:   Karl “Dynamite” Dargan (17-0, 9 KOs) is gearing up to face Tony “The Lightning” Luis (18-2, 7 KOs) for the WBC Continental Americas Lightweight Title on Jan. 30 at Foxwoods Resort Casino and live on ESPN2 FridayNight Fights. Below is a list of the top ten reasons that fans should jump on the Dynamite bandwagon.

10.     Dynamite is trained by his cousin and legendary trainer Brother Naazim Richardson. Dargan grew up in the gym watching Richardson train future Hall of Famers like “Sugar” Shane Moseley and Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins. According to Hopkins, this unique upbringing gave Dynamite a top notch sweet science education as a young fighter. Hopkins said, “He really has an old spirit and mind and learned how to learn things quicker than guys that aren’t around world champions and elite fighters in Philly.”

9.       Dargan is in a long-term relationship with international recording artist and R&B Divas: LA star Lil’ Mo. The couple refer to themselves on social media as “The Dynamo Show” and have a joint Instagram account: @TheDynamoShow. Even though he jet sets around the world to be by her side while she is on tour, he still sees boxing as a lifestyle and spends every day in the gym to be in fight-ready shape all the time.

8.       Despite his gruff exterior, he has a soft spot for children. Late last year he and Lil’ Mo visited Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC as part of a charity event with the WBC/NABF. While in attendance, The Dynamo Show connected with a young girl, Miyah, and her family. When the young girl passed away just before Christmas, Dynamite was a pallbearer at her funeral. Mo and Dynamite then spent New Year’s Eve with her family and have invited them to be their special guests at his Jan. 30 fight at Foxwoods against Tony “The Lightning” Luis.

7.       Growing up around legends like Hopkins, Dynamite learned firsthand what it takes to have a long and successful career. Hopkins gave Dynamite this advice: “Protect yourself at all times in and out of the ring. That is from A to Z. Not just in boxing, but in his professional life and in his career in general.”

6.       He is undefeated but that does not mean that he has not been tested. He was knocked down in the third round in his last fight (against Angino Perez in September) but he managed to come back and knockout Perez in the fifth. He also holds two titles: The USBA Atlantic Coast Region and Junior NABF Lightweight Titles.

5.       This is a chance to catch him on his way up. Fans in attendance on Jan. 30can say they saw him when he was on the precipice of becoming a star. According to Hopkins, it is only a matter of time, “He hasn’t won a championship yet, but if you didn’t know him, you would think he already has. I think he will win one sooner rather than later.”

4.       Karl has a personality tailor-made for boxing. When asked about his personality, Hopkins replied, “He had such a confident spirit. His personality really backs up his skills. It is one thing to talk one way and fight the other. With him, it goes hand-in-hand. He backs his personality up with skill and it is a great thing to see.”

3.       Dynamite has a great amateur background. He defeated ranked contenders such as Hank Lundy and former title contender Diego Magdaleno.

2.       He has vowed to stay busy inside the ring, regardless of how dangerous the opposition and he is willing to stand and trade with anybody.

1.       Most importantly, he is coming into his own as a boxer and a puncher. He was always known as a skilled boxer, but in his last two fights he showed he can give fans exactly what they want to see – excitement. He knocked out his those opponents in dominating style and has given no indication that he plans to slow down.

It features a ten-round lightweight battle between undefeated contender Karl “Dynamite” Dargan (17-0, 9 KOs) against Tony “The Lightning” Luis (18-2, 7 KOs) for the WBC Continental Americas Lightweight Championship in the main event. The co-feature is an eight-round middleweight bout between Thomas Falowo (12-3, 8 KOs) against Russell Lamour (11-0, 5 KOs). The remaining undercard bouts will be announced shortly. The doors will open at 5:00 PM ET and the Friday Night Fights telecast will begin at 9:00 PM ET on ESPN2.
