Sugar is Still Sweet: Shane Mosley vs Jin in court

“Sugar” Shane Mosley squared off in court again yesterday with his ex-wife, Jin Mosley, who is notorious in the boxing world for her abrasive personality and for snatching his world championship belts in 2011 in their nasty divorce. A divorce that Mosley claimed shouldn’t have happened because he found out Jin was divorced in 2006 from a man named Sanjay Dwivedi who Jin married in 1995 about 5 years prior to meeting Mosley.

While Jin claims she divorced Dwivedi in 2002, a few months prior to marrying Mr. Mosley, there is mounting evidence that her 2002 divorce was later vacated. In her ex-husbands 2006 divorce, he cites irreconcilable differences, more specifically, no sex with Mrs. Mosley since 2005 (5 years after she met and had children with Mr. Mosley).

Mr. Mosley’s impressive legal team came prepared to fight this week, bringing with them certified records from the 2006 divorce that states there were no other divorces valid other than the 2006 divorce. Mr. Mosley’s attorneys Marc Little and Michelle La Russo had no comment yesterday, but they were over heard to having said they were “kicking the butt” of Jin and her attorney Michael Artan, who is primarily a criminal defense attorney.

Mr. Artan flailed around as he was clearly not getting the answers he wanted or expected during his direct on Mr. Mosley. Mr. Mosley answered the barrage of questions with class and it was clear Sugar is still sweet as the jury ate up every word he said. Much to the apparent amusement of Mosley and his legal team, Mr. Artan was embarrassingly admonished several times by the judge to “move it along” as the jury was “falling asleep”.

It is unclear why Jin Mosley hired a criminal defense attorney to represent her in this defamation case, but perhaps because bigamy is a crime in California she is preparing to mount a criminal defense if Mr. Mosley is in fact able to prove she was in fact married to another man when she married and had children with him in 2002. Similarly her 2002 “divorce” could have been flawed as she oddly hired an immigration attorney to handle the purported divorce in New York. The trial is set to go at least until Friday with multiple witnesses coming to testify on behalf of both Mr. Mosley and Mrs. Mosley, and we will be covering the entire week of the trial.
