“Emanuel is sure to give boxing fans another thrilling fight,” says Taylor’s promoter and Star Boxing president Joe DeGuardia. “Taylor has beaten elite opponents before, and almost pulled off the upset over Adrien Broner. I have confidence in a great performance. The winner will emerge as a rated contender in the junior welterweight division in line for a major fight.”
Taylor and Orozco were originally slated to fight on March 12th in San Antonio, but Orozco had to withdraw in February when he suffered a cut over his right eye in training.
Taylor, who returns to the ring with two of his last three victories coming by way of knockout, has turned back such top-flight fighters as once-defeated Raymond Serrano, no. 4 world rated Victor Cayo, and highly-touted Karim Mayfield. The native of Edgewood Arsenal, MD, has distinguished himself going the distance in decision losses to former world champions Adrien Broner and Star Boxing’s own Chris Algieri in nationally-televised bouts.
In his last bout on Oct. 10, Orozco won a one-sided, eight-round unanimous decision over former world titleholder Steve Forbes.
Orozco is a native of Tecate, Baja California, Mexico who fights out of San Diego, and has won seven of his last nine bouts by knockout. Impressive victories over Forbes, as well as seasoned veterans Martin Honorio, Ivan Hernandez and Miguel Huerta have propelled Orozco to No. 9 in the International Boxing Federation’s (IBF) junior welterweight world ratings.
