After his unanimous decision win over Jose Rodriguez as the headliner of Mayweather Promotions’ latest event, this time at the Sam’s Town Live arena in the Sam’s Town Casino and Gambling Hall, The Lion” Sharif Bogere took time to speak with Boxeomundial.com Here is what he had to say regarding ring rust, his overall performance and immediate future inside the squared circle.
How did it feel to be back?
Sharif Bogere: “Ah, you know it was a great feeling that I was able to go 10 rounds. I really needed those rounds in there because its been almost 14 months without fighting . I had to go through the surgery in my leg and stuff like that so you know I’m thankful that I was able to go 10 rounds….hey, we got the rounds in, I’m feeling great and I’m back”
Was there the possibility of putting opponent away or you wanted to go the distance?
SB: ” I wanted to get some rounds in there but you know the last round I wanted to take him out but was late…I just had to get in there. Start mixing it up with him (Rodriguez)…But It was late…I stepped up late”
How do you feel after the surgery?
SB: “Its mental now you know? But , I’m 100 percent better now. I’ve been running , been doing 5 or 6 miles every other day. Been bouncing good, I think you seen my footwork wasn’t bad in the ring… I’m ready to get back in there with the big dogs.”
Did the cut over left eye bother you at all? Was it a factor?
SB: “That happened in the last round… that was the last round…the guy (Rodriguez) kept on head butting me. I kept telling the referee and he warned him about it. The last minute of the last round I got cut by it. I’ve been there before so its nothing special.
Sharif ‘s manager: “He heals fast”
When will you be back in action?
SB: “I mean rest for now. I got to get better. Gotta get my eye (better). if it wasn’t for the cut I would be ready to come (back) the next 2 to 3 weeks”
Sharif’s manager: “January 2018 you’re gonna see him.”
What’s next? Any specific names?
‘
SB: “Anybody, bring now. Maybe get another one? Another little one to shake off the rust and be ready for the title”
Assess your performance ? Rust? Timing ?
SB: “I felt a little rust. Punches feel like they were just slipping but didn’t land good. I did had him good. I had him a couple of times but I didn’t have him the way I wanted to hurt him… It is what it is.”
Sharif’s manager: “He knows his mistakes”
Closing thoughts?
SB: “One step at a time. One step at a time – we’ll be back stronger than ever”
