Sergey Kovalev Planning to Knockout the Entire Lightheavyweight Division
This Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall Ballroom in Atlantic City, the 30 year old heavy handed knockout artist from Russia, Sergey Kovalev, 23-0 with 21 knockouts, takes on the undefeated Cedric Agnew, 26-0 with 13 knockouts. Agnew is coming off of a solid win over the tough and skilled Philadelphia native Yusaf Mack. Kovalev however is coming off of a knockout tear very rarely seen, having walked through lightheavyweight contenders with such ease it’s actually frightening. In his last six fights, only one of them has made it into the 4th round. And the 4th round fight was against the very legit and at the time undefeated Nathan Cleverly. This type of ferociousness can only spell doom for the undefeated Cedric Agnew. Well, he’ll be undefeated, at least for about 2 more days.
If Kovalev handles his business against Cedric Agnew, which he almost certainly will, Kovalev sets himself up for some potentially major fights with WBC Lightheavyweight Champion Adonis Stevenson, former WBC Champion Jean Pascal, and of course the P4P great and undefeated, lineal Super Middleweight Champion Andre Ward; all of which are currently and recently fighting on HBO.
There are big things in the future for this exciting and hard hitting Russian terror, and as long as he flattens Cedric Agnew in dramatic fashion, HBO will surely bring Kovalev back and quite possibly for a fight that will shake up the boxing world.
