Seniesa Estrada gives back between fights
It was just a few weeks ago that Seniesa Estrada was earning a unanimous decision in her fifth fight as a professional. Now the undefeated flyweight from East Los Angeles is ready to step back into the ring on October 15 as part of the OC Fight Club card in Costa Mesa, CA.
Fresh off a victory most 23 year olds would have indulged and taken time off to themselves, not Estrada. A few days later she was participating in a charity event for Hall of Famer Bobby Chacon. Like many fans who remember Chacon’s positive energy from years past, Estrada recalls having interacted with the popular fighter in the past.
“It was great attending Bobby Chacon’s event. I met him when I was about 12 years old. He’s always been such a great spirit and I’ll always be willing to support him in any way I can. I wish him the best and I hope he continues to have the same great spirit he’s always had,” said Estrada.
Not only did Estrada and her father Joe attend the event but they both placed winning bids during the charity auction. It was their way of giving back to the former world champion.
After he last fight she was shocked to see the reaction of the crowd which was very pleased and excited by the fight they had just witnessed. As a result they showered the ring with money which Estrada wasn’t ready for.
“At first I didn’t know what to think, I kind of thought it was disrespectful but then my dad and everyone were saying that the crowd throwing money something fight fans do when they really love a fight. So now that I understand I guess it was really a great thing,” said Estrada.
Just the feeling of getting a victory was relieving to Estrada who thought she might not fight when her opponent came in heavy at the weigh in. Estrada was willing to do what needed to be done in order to make the fight so an agreement was reached.
“It felt great to get my fifth win against a bigger opponent. It’s unfortunate that my last two fights have been against bigger opponents but I’m just happy I got the win,” said Estrada.
For Estrada it’s not just about winning as she builds her career. She wants to put on a show for the fans and her supporters. The way she does so is by using her mix of defense and strong offensive output. She is a fighter that really puts combination of punches together with the intent to knockout her opponent.
“As long as my fans loved my performance and my supporters are entertained, then it makes it all worth it,” said Estrada.
Outside the gym Estrada stays busy as she attended the East Los Angeles Mexican Independence Day Parade this past Sunday. She’s not only a representative of the community but also strives to set a positive example for all. Look for Estrada to put on another great show on October 15 as she takes the next step in a very bright career.
