SAUNDERS OUT TO PROVE HE’S THE BEST OF BRITISH
Billy Joe Saunders is out to prove that he’s the best of the British middleweights this year. The British and Commonwealth Champion puts both titles on the line this Thursday night at the York Hall against Manchester puncher Matthew Hall, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).
With Martin Murray, Matthew Macklin and Darren Barker all in the domestic mix, Saunders wants to face at least one of his rivals this year
Still only 23 and with his rivals all 30, Saunders says the best is yet to come from him.
“I’m in this business to prove that I’m the best and I’ll do that this year,” Said Saunders.
“The domestic middleweight division is really heating up and there are some talented lads in there with Murray, Macklin and Barker I’d love to test myself against any of them and I’m confident that I could beat any of them. That’s not being big-headed, I know what I can do and so do my trainers and I just have to prove it. I’m just 23 and have plenty of time on my side, while these lads are 30, I want to fight them the sooner the better really and then look to a European title”.
The Hatfield star says he sees Hall as a threat as he’s upset the applecart before beating prospects Kirs Carslaw and Kerry Hope.
“Hall’s tough, come-forward and strong and he’ll give me a lot to think about,” added Saunders.I haven’t taken him lightly, he’s still dangerous and will be out to spring a surprise. I’ve worked too long and hard to win the British and Commonwealth titles, though, and I’m not letting them go”.Hall’s good, but I’m better and you’ll see me at my best on Thursday night and retaining my title in knockout style”.
