Saturday’s Fight Night at Horseshoe Hammond to Feature Top Chicago Prospects
CHICAGO — May 12, 2015 — Some of Chicago’s most exciting prospects return to the ring this Saturday night for Fight Night at the Horseshoe Hammond, presented by Hitz Boxing. In March, a capacity crowd enjoyed exciting fights and an electric atmosphere at the Horseshoe, and this Saturday, May 16th, will be no different for fight fans in attendance. With veteran promoter Bobby Hitz at the helm, Hitz Boxing is the busiest promoter in Chicago, and has become known for showcasing Chicago’s top boxing talent.
Boxing fans love a good heavyweight matchup, and Nick Asberry (7-0, 3KO) versus Lyle McDowell (28-13-1, 19KO) will deliver on Saturday night. The unbeaten Asberry spent much of his training camp for this fight with Bryant Jennings, who went the distance with Wladimir Klitschko in April. Asberry will be looking to keep his ‘O’ while facing a far more experienced opponent in McDowell, who has been in the ring with Bermaine Stiverne, Malik Scott and Samuel Peter.
Light heavyweight Samuel Horowitz returns to the ring in his third professional fight, facing Ramira Thomas in a four round bout. Horowitz will be joined in the corner by actor and 2015 International Boxing Hall of Fame Master of Ceremonies John Seda, who stars as detective Antonio Dawson in the NBC crime drama Chicago PD. The actor, who was an amateur boxer himself, has been a fixture at Hitz Boxing events.
Chicago welterweight Ed Brown (3-0, 3KO) will be stepping into the ring for the first time since signing with mega-manager Cameron Dunkin and Chicago boxing staple Mike Cericola. The former Chicago Golden Gloves standout made headlines when he faced the experienced Dontre King in his debut. King had over 20 fights when he faced Brown, who made short work of the fighter, knocking him out in the first round. He faces Reymundo Hernandez (6-18, 6KO) Saturday night at the Horseshoe Hammond.
Fidel Navarrete (8-0-2, 4KO), whose all-action style has made him a fan favorite, faces California’s Salvador Perez in a four round featherweight bout. Navarrete, who is also managed by Dunkin and Cericola, will be in his 11thfight since his professional debut in 2013. All of Navarrete’s fights have been under the Hitz Boxing banner.
Shawndell Winters faces Michigan’s Michael Perez in a four round bout at cruiserweight. This is Winters’ debut fight, and his first under his newly minted promotional agreement with Hitz Boxing. “He’s hungry, he wants to fight, and he had a great reputation coming out of the amateurs,” said promoter Bobby Hitz of the new signee.
Rounding out the card, Harry Langhurst makes his long-anticipated debut against Albert Harkins in a light heavyweight bout. Israel Echevarria faces Will Chaloutte and Nate Gallimore faces Jeffrey Wright.
“We are excited to return to the Horseshoe Hammond after our sell out card in March,” said promoter Bobby Hitz. “Chicago really comes out to support its own, and we’ve got some great Chicago fighters on this card.”
Doors to The Venue at Horseshoe Hammond open at 6:00 Saturday, and first bell is at 7:00. Tickets are priced $90, 40 and 30, and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets. Boxing fans must be 21 years and older to attend events at the Horseshoe Hammond.
