Rolando Chinea Improves To 14-1-1 With Win Over Mel Crossty In DC

Victory-Boxing-PromotionsWASHINGTON DC – October 20, 2016 – Rolando Chinea (14-1-1, 6KO) extended his win streak tonight with an eight-round unanimous decision (78-74 x2, 79-73) over Cincinnati’s Mel Crossty (7-1-1, 1KO) at a private event at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC. The event was the fourth of its kind, promoted by Alarm.com at its annual meeting. Chinea, who drew the attention of boxing fans with a split decision win over O’Shaquie Foster on Showtime in July, has been matched tough in his last few fights and Crossty was no exception.

The two earned “Fight of the Night” honors from Alarm.com for their battle, which didn’t surprise the always-entertaining Chinea. “As a boxing fan, I don’t like when fighters stare each other down and strategize too much,” said Chinea after the bout. “If my opponent doesn’t throw, I’m going bring the fight to him. I am impatient in that way.”

Chinea saw his hard work paying off when he had to make changes to his strategy during the fight. “He was a sharp and crafty fighter but started off running a lot. Early on we made some adjustments, and started cutting off the ring more. From that point on, I dominated the fight.”

Victory Boxing Promotions’ Founder, and Chinea’s Promoter, Chris Middendorf, was ringside for the event. “Rolando is a real throw-back fighter,” said the boxing veteran. “He will fight anyone, anywhere, and he puts on a show. Tonight was no exception. Crossty rarely came off the ropes, and Rolando stayed on him, and roughed him up the whole fight. It was a well-deserved win.”

“We have improved a lot,” said Chinea when asked what’s next. “As a boxer, your work is never done. There are always things you can improve, and the goal is to fix as many mistakes as you can. We’ll be watching the fight and seeing what we can improve.
