Saturday March 30th, 2013
Mandalay Bay Events Center
Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
Carlos Claudio (15-9-3) vs. Miguel Berchelt (16-0)
(Super Featherweight Bout, 8 Rounds)
Belchert insisted on keeping things short tonight by bullying his foe inside the ring as soon as the first round started. Once he got Claudio into the corner, Belchert unleashed a barrage of punches that found their mark as the out matched fighter covered up to avoid any life changing damage. The referee instinctively saw enough and stepped in to waive off the match.
Result: Miguel Berchelt remains unbeaten by defeating Carlos Claudio by TKO at (1:53) of the 1st round.
Charlie Dubray (1-0) vs. Jose Ramirez (1-0)
(Lightweight Bout, 4 Rounds)
Ramirez came out for the 1st round like a bat out of hell against Dubray. He charged in with multiple combinations, brilliantly asserting himself by mixing his attack to the head and also the body. Dubray did his best to adjust but not before absorbing a 3-punch combination from his foe that sent him to the canvas within the first 30 seconds of the opening round. A powerful Ramirez right to the head of Dubray, followed by a left hand caught Dubray off balance as he was already headed down, speeding up the painful trip to the canvas. Dubray beat the count only to shortly find himself on the wrong end of a perfect Ramirez left hook to the body, sending him to the floor one more time. However, on this occasion Dubray didn’t beat the count.
Result: Jose Ramirez defeats Charlie Dubray by 1st round KO at (1:06).
Osvaldo Rojas (7-2-2) vs. Michael Finney (10-0)
(Welterweight Bout, 6 Rounds)
Rojas found himself in the ring with a fighter determined to destroy him and not let up on that mission for any minute of any round as the fight materialized. Playing the role of hired hitman was Finney who used angles and faster hands to find openings on his opponent and blast him with punishing shots from bell to bell. In the 4th and early in the 5th round, Finney touched his opponent to the head, visibly stunning Rojas. To his credit, Rojas threw some wide shots from the hip, either geuninely hurt from the punches or playing possum. No luck for Rojas as he was hoping to land on his unsuspecting opponent as Finney came in looking for the finish.
The undefeated fighter didn’t get too reckless and waited for the right moment nonetheless. The defining blow came from the Las Vegas native at about the midway point of the 5th round when Finney unloaded a picture perfect body shot unto his foe sending him to the canvas for good.
Result: Michael Finney defeats Osvaldo Rojas by KO at (1:49) of the 5th round.
John Herrera (4-5-1) vs. Tramaine Williams (5-0)
(Super Bantamweight Bout, 4 Rounds)
Williams made the bout look more like a sparring session than a sanctioned match as he outclassed Herrera for the entire super bantamweight affair. The unbeaten Connecticut native skated away from trouble with his fantastic footwork and every time his opponent tried to mount an offense, Williams beat him to it, snapping a few left jabs in his face before moving out of the pocket. The few times that he was cornered along the ropes, Williams circled and rattled off some lightning fast left hooks to avoid any danger. His movement, both on the feet and upper body resembled that of a prime Pernell Withaker in the ring as he cruised to a one-sided points win.
Result: Tramaine Williams defeats John Herrera by unanimous decision. All 3 judges see it (40-36).
Juan Guajardo (2-0) vs. Brett Rather (2-0)
(Heavyweight Bout, 4 Rounds)
From the 1st round Rather tried walking his foe down using his jab and powerful, right hand punches. Getting closer and closer to landing flush, but coming up short as the shots were blocked by Guajardo’s guard. The tide instantly changed about the midway point of the 1st round when a perfectly timed over hand right by Guajardo landed clean as Rather was coming in with a 1-2, sending him to the canvas. Rather beat the count but must have known tha he was down on the cards following the opening stanza as Guajardo scored again with some flush left hooks and right uppercuts to close out strong.
The knock down seemed to give Rather the extra motivation he needed for the remainder of the fight as he rethought his offensive approach. It paid dividends as he flicked his jab in order to smother his man along the ropes. This enabled him to successfully make it his fight, keeping the match in a phone booth-type of ordeal and gain the upper hand by ripping at his foe’s body with a barrage of hard hooks and crisp uppercuts, only backing up momentarily to pop the jab and set up some over hand rights. Guajardo wouldn’t go quietly as he maneuvered off of the ropes to catch his man coming in with short right hands. In the 4th and final round, Guajardo kept the action more in the middle of the ring and landed the clear as well as noticeably damaging shots as the two titans closed out an action packed performance that had the entire Mandalay Bay Events Center roaring with a grateful applause.
Result: Brett Rather defeats Juan Guajardo by unanimous decision. All 3 judges see it (38-37)
Roberto Lopez (4-4-2) vs. Juan Heraldez (4-0)
(Super Lightweight Bout, 4 Rounds)
From the opening round Heraldez used great footwork and lateral movement to set up his shots and keep his opponent at bay. Whether he circled right or left, Heraldez landed a quick right uppercut or left hook before sliding out of the pocket. To Lopez’ credit he marched forward, not letting up on his approach to land something in close quarters against his opponent.
Connecting with a solid two-punch combination, Heraldez sent Lopez to the canvas early in the 2nd round. Heraldez set up the left hook that landed flush using his right jab. The height and reach advantage was more evident for Heraldez as the bout progressed. He easily continued connecting from the outside, while Lopez struggled to get anything going on in the inside. By the time the 4th round started, bad swelling had developed on both of Lopez’ eyes from the Heraldez uppercuts and hooks as Heraldez cruised to a points victory.
Result: Juan Heraldez defeats Roberto Lopez by unanimous decision. All 3 judges see it (40-35).
Jason Tresvan (0-1) vs. Manuel Lopez (1-0)
(Super Lightweight Bout, 4 Rounds)
The two warriors kicked off the night from the Mandalay Bay Resort &
Casino in Las Vegas in a match that was action packed for the short time it lasted. Tresvan used good movement and footwork to keep his foe at the end of his punches, making his man come just short of landing a big right hand. Lopez wouldn’t give up on the attack and eventually landed that right hand shot. With about a minute left in the round, a big over hand right from Lopez connected flush on Tresvan. The Las Vegas native was clearly hurt and back pedaled his way away from danger the remainder of the round.
He didn’t fare so well in the 2nd. Lopez pressed forward with tons of confidence almost landing every right hand that he threw and if his opponent made the mistake of ending up on the ropes, he paid for it by absorbing some vicious hooks to the body. Lopez did a fine job of mixing up his offense, alternating from the head back to the body, back up to the head of his foe. Shortly, a powerful Lopez right hook to the body of Tresvan landed, almost folding the brave warrior. Lopez came in for the kill unloading a combination before referee Kenny Bayless stepped in to waive it off.
Result: Manuel Lopez defeats Jason Tresvan by TKO at (2:06) of the 2nd round.
