Return of “The Fighting Pride of Las Vegas” Jessie Vargas

On April 30, 2022, From Madison Square Garden, New York City, Jessie Vargas will be making his return to the ring, where he will be taking on Liam “Beefy” Smith in the Junior Middle Weight
Division also known as the Super Welterweight division.

Jessie Vargas is well known in the boxing world as capturing world titles in two different weight divisions. He won the WBA and IBO belts in the Super Lightweight division and the WBO in the
Welterweight division. He has also been known to take on the best fighters in every division he’s competed in. Mixing it up with the likes of Timothy Bradley, Manny Pacquiao, Sadam Ali,
and Adrien Broner and the list goes on!

Defeating Smith will put Jessie Vargas in a good spot to once again compete for a world title and possibly become a 3-division world champion with the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez, Wilfred Benitez, and Roberto Durán which all became inducted into the boxing hall of fame. Vargas has fought once before at Super Welterweight and knocked out his opponent Humberto Soto a former World Champion.

At this stage of his career, I personally think this weight class is better suited for him. Liam Smith will be a challenging opponent since he is a tough fighter and is a former world champion and has fought against notable names like Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia. It sounds like Smith is underestimating Vargas with his negative comments about the fighter on social media, this is really motivating Vargas to train harder and deliver a big statement win. Watch out Smith! You woke up “The Fighting Pride of Las Vegas”!

Going into this fight the betting odds have Liam Smith as the favorite, I don’t necessarily agree as Vargas has superior boxing skills and it will be demonstrated the night of the fight. One thing
