Nielsen out with injury – Nordic Fight Night postponed
The Nordic Fight Night on May 28 at the Arena Midt in Kjellerup has been postponed due to an injury sustained by Patrick Nielsen (28-1, 14 KOs), who was set to face Denis Douglin (20-4, 13 KOs) for the WBO Intercontinental Super Middleweight title.
While sparring, Nielsen suffered a broken metacarpal and a scaphoid wrist fracture for which he must undergo surgery. The 25 year-old from Albertslund is expected to be out of action for 8-12 weeks.
‘’I felt a lot of pain in my left wrist after a sparring session and I knew something wasn’t right,’’ said Nielsen. ‘’I went to see a hand specialist and they confirmed the damage and told me I must have an operation.
‘’I’m very disappointed as I was looking forward to fighting Douglin on May 28 and moving another step closer to a World title challenge.
‘’Now, I must take some time out to recover. After the operation, it will be 8 weeks before I can start punching again, but I will come back stronger and I look forward to fighting again after the summer.’’
‘’Patrick’s operation will be overseen by one of the top hand specialists in Berlin and we have every confidence it will be a success and he will make a speedy recovery,’’ said promoter Nisse Sauerland.
‘’We will unfortunately have to postpone the Nordic Fight Night on May 28 but are already looking at new dates and will make an announcement soon.’’
